Why Is A Born Sexual Orientation Equated With Choices And Addictions Like To Drugs Or Food By Ignorant People?
How come so many people view homosexuality as an ‘addiction or ‘act’. Since I’ve always been gay and would be EVEN if i was a Virgin how is my born orientation an ‘act’? and Why is it equated to choices like drug addiction and over eating my so many ignorant people?
I saw a report on PBS about a year ago regarding the symptoms of “gayness” in little children. Several people were asked to identify a couple of hundred photos of children between the ages of 1 and 5. The people selected to do the sorting were from a wide variety of educations and backgrounds. 80% of the time they were able to pick out the photos of children who later grew up to be gay. There was something discernible about the way those children “stood out” from the other children that made an “impression” on the perceptions of the selectors. The interesting conclusion reached was that many could not explain why they perceived the child as gay, except that the little boys seemed unusually passive, and the little girls seemed unusually “angry”. If most little children are already developing a sexual orientation at those ages without the initiation to sexual activity, and only the exposure to traditional gender roles, how can someone say that being homosexual is a choice? That conclusion just isn’t logical or rational, or reasonable.
Sexual deviants are not born that way, they’re raised that way. BTW, there’s no such thing as ” sexual orientation ” you have a hetero sexual and then you have homosexual perversion. God bless.
The issue is … is it normal. Like a birth defect, it is a predisposition that is not normal. Doesn’t mean it isn’t common. Alot of homosexuality (and bisexuality) is learned by some sort of conditioning. Abuse and pornography can alter a normal sexual orientation. Just like being overweight is not ‘normal’ – neither is homosexuality. You are not ignorant if you view being overweight as unhealthy. Neither are you if you view homosexuality as not normal.
Sexuality is not an urge that should be gratified in every way a person wants. All sex urges should be managed with discipline, homosexual or not. But – mankind has decided that we should be able to put it where ever we want, when ever. Most people understand the complexity of being homosexual, and understand that most will give into their nature no different than a heterosexual. But – insisting that it is ‘normal’ is as ignorant as saying being fat is normal. Just be what you are without re-defining facts. Over-eating and being homosexual have nothing to do with ones value.
I don’t believe there’s any way to prove whether or not someone was born homosexual or not. All we have to go on is people like you (not meant in a derogatory way) who say things like “Since I’ve always been gay… etc.” That’s fine. That’s your opinion… not based on fact.
You don’t know if you were gay when you were an infant or even a young child. And all through your first years before you could even talk or walk you were receiving input and influences from everywhere. You were being conditioned. So, it could just as easily be nurture as nature.
Like I said, there is not enough proof in either case, to make a positive claim one way or the other. SOOOO, we base our opinion on our belief systems and personal preferences.
I believe homosexuals choose and I believe it’s wrong. You don’t. We can disagree and still live in harmony… it’s the beauty of freedom. I also believe adultery is wrong and lying is wrong, but you don’t see the adulterer coming to me and asking why I’m ignorant or the liar coming to me and trying to explain his faults away by saying he was born that way. Why? Because they don’t care what I think. I wish some people would take what I think to heart, but if you’re just going to whine about what I think, I’d rather you just decide not to care.
Why do you think that overeating is a choice?
Many recent scientific findings indicate that there are hormonal and brain influences at work that skew the more normal feelings that allow people to register as full.
For that matter while the initial use of drugs is a choice, the drugs that create physical addiction do not allow for choice without severe physical problems.
What you are doing is exactly what the people who equate orientation with choice are doing, assuming facts not in evidence. We don’t know why some become addicted to drugs and others don’t, or why some need to eat to a point where others would vomit, or why some people prefer their own sex. We just don’t know, and no one should make value judgments until we do, and even then whats the point of denigrating another human being? It doesn’t help us or them and we all have things we would rather not do, or be, or be attracted by, or maybe we even like our curves, our food and our own sex and wish the other guy could just let it go.
For many of the religious if you don’t commit the act you haven’t sinned.
Are you asking for the reasons why ignorant people do the things they do?
Could it be because they are ignorant?
Maybe you should be asking why there are so many ignorant people?
If you need help understanding the habits of the ignorant, perhaps you are ignorant and need to get yourself informed.
Being gay does not automatically mean you are not ignorant, it just means you’re gay.
Now, go be gay and leave the rest of us alone.
I guess it’s only human nature to be afraid of things that you don’t understand. That fear is then propagated by ignorant religious zealots who have a bully pulpit and a bunch of brainless followers who will agree with whatever is said, regardless of their own moral background (can we say Rush Limbaugh?). It takes work to understand and to accept things that are different from you, and far too many Americans have this aversion to making any kind of real effort in many cases. So instead of doing the work necessary, they take the easy way out and just say that it is immoral or evil or whatever they say. It’s ridiculous, but it’s the way that it is.
Why is it that people “born gay” cannot be changed but people “born racist” can be? Why is homosexuality normal if you are born that way but racistim isn’t if you are born that way? According to the cover article on Newsweek, we are born racists.

Your genes will give you legs, but you choose whether you want to walk, run, jump, skip, or ride a bicycle. Your genes will give you genitals, but you choose if you want to stimulate them with a man, woman, by yourself, with a dog, with a child, be chaste, or whatever.
Maybe your genes influence your desires, but desires do not make you act. I desire chocolate, but I choose not to eat it because it will rot my teeth and make me fat. You ALWAYS have a choice.
i don’t know Ryan except for exactly what you stated-ignorance.One ‘s sexuality (I don’t like the term sexual preference it equates choice) is I believe predetermined all of us straight ,gay, bisexual want and need different things its a individual as our DNA .In life we all have to deal with ignorance in one way or another-don’t let them get to you,be happy.A quote that i live by is “Be nothing but yourself but be that perfectly”
Learning about sexual orientation has never been a part of our formal education and people become confused. A lot of times confusion leads to a fear which leads them to turn to the bible or God because they cannot think for themselves. It just happens to be more convenient because many churches look at it negatively so then they don’t have to confront that fear.
Because many people are very close minded…unfortunately the bible often does that to people. Although I do believe in God I do not think he condemns homosexuality (men wrote that book not God) But really I think you answered your own question, people are ignorant they just don’t know. And they don’t really want to know.
Because they want to think that they can change anything, including your orientation and doesn’t want to think that someone close to them could be gay and they can’t do anything about it. They don’t want an explanation for something that they can’t accept.
Humans aren’t born with a sexual orientation.
It’s a choice one makes as they grow up , just like eating a crappy diet vs a healthy one or shooting smack instead of shooting pool.
Could you please tell my how you know with 100% assurance that people are born gay? I haven’t see anyone provide the evidence that people are born that way….and not matter if you are born gay or choose to be gay…it is still a choice to act on sex period!!
I think it’s the fact that so many heterosexual people (young and old) are experimenting with homosexuality that some people assume that it’s always a choice.
What difference does it make if it is a choice or not in the alleged “freest country” on Earth anyway? It shouldn’t.
It seems to be a contradiction that country that fancies itself to be so free seems to live in fear of said freedom.
Because people are idiots. When you have a debate or conversation with someone next time. Ask them “when did you tell your parents or friends(whoever it might be) your straight?” This might get them thinking.

We don’t understand why a gay child appears.
I’ve come to believe that I had a gay child because my father’s brother and my husband’s aunt were gay putting the genetic markers on both sides of the family.
I’m also the only sib to have red haired children for the same reason.
This is why I am glad they are “promoting” homosexuality in schools.
Hopefully in a few generations no one will think twice about it.
