How to deal with parents suffering from addictions

In today’s society, numerous families deal with many issues. Whether its financial problems, divorce, troubled teens or simply struggling to get by. But there is one major issue that many people choose to ignore.

Addictions, Over 23 million people in the United States are addicted to drugs or alcohol, and over 75% are men and women who have children. It’s a serious matter & this article is going to focus on how to deal with parents who have an addiction.

No matter how much a parent loves their child, or how good of a parent they are, when they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they turn into a completely different person. Besides the fact that they are setting the wrong example for their children, they’re incapable of being responsible, & making the right decisions and that causes the child involved to be the “adult”. Whether it be making their own dinner, or taking care of younger siblings, or making sure their parents are safe. Parents may say hurtful things when they’re under the influence, & act like they don’t love their children. Then when they’re sober, they act like nothing ever happened.

No matter what is said when their influenced, make sure you don’t believe any of it. A lot of people say the truth comes out when you’re drunk, but that’s not always true. Many teens tend to blame themselves for their parents problem, thinking that maybe it’s something they did or said to cause their parents to turn to such harmful behavior. This is not true either. It may be your parent’s way of dealing with their life issues. A lot of children think “well if my mom or dad really loved me, they wouldn’t put me through this”. You can’t think that way. What many teens don’t understand is that when somebody has an addiction, that addiction overcomes everything. Whether it’s family, friends or their jobs.
They stop caring about a lot of things, because the only thing that makes them happy is drugs or alcohol. If it is really serious, then wait until your mom or dads is completely sober, & tell them how you feel. Tell them how you worry about them, how it makes you feel, how you blame yourself, how you don’t like the person they become, simply tell them that they need to get help.

You have to be careful with how you approach an addict, because in most cases, addicts don’t believe they have a problem, so they will feel as though you’re attacking them.

Let them know that you don’t approve of what they’re doing, & it’s ruining your relationship with them. Make sure you let them know that you love them unconditionally, & all you want is for them to be happy and healthy.

That won’t always work because you can’t help somebody that doesn’t want to help themselves. So if you’re in a situation where you’re parent refuses to get help. Just let it go. Always keep in mind that you did the best you could, & you tried your hardest. Remember that you can’t force somebody to change, & always think of how much your parents really love you.

Surround yourself with supportive friends, find a new hobby, and get involved with anything to help keep your mind off the situation. Try not to be around them when they are under the influence, and if you absolutely have to be around them, just think of how strong this will make you in the future.

Dating is an international activity among teen, It is very popular in developed countries as varying lifestyle have decreased parental assistance in searching of a life partner or soul mate. Dating is referred for searching relationship for love and romance and at last for marriage. Lately with the approaching of online dating sites, dating has become a resource for who are looking for sex partners by couples and as singles and also as gay, lesbian, bisexual. Here relationship may not be given much importance but a casual sex meet is what adult are seeking with a sex partner.

Teen dating is obviously for friendship, which may expand into romance and love and may finish into marriage depending upon the present of relationship. Teen dating is the first step that a male has of female and vice a versa. It is more talked about matter as the first interaction is exciting and at times nerve breaking.

The excitement of being alone in a company of opposite sex is not very tough to picture even for singles who have been bereft of such exciting circumstances. The era at which teens start their dating is not predetermined but generally it is more accepted among teens aged fifteen years and over.

Dating with teen is started as a simply class room communication or an introduction by friends, relatives or parents. Teens go to online dating service for finding dating partners as well. Hence, you have teen dating choice in matchmaking services on Internet. Some teens appear for sexual partners as well other than it is legal only if you are at or above the specific age for sexual meet, which is generally eighteen years in most countries. Such teens are referred to as hot teens or hot teen in dating vocabulary.

Dating between teens is a gathering of innocent minds and body as planned by human biology. Here sex is not reception in human society until a person is adult or mature, which is sensible and right.

The first contact, usually in a restaurant or a movie hall is a very tense situation for both the boy and the girl especially if they are introverted. Bold teens generally get of straight away. Any way it is a thrilling for both the girl and boy to be in each other’s company and if the relation gels then affection develops which may lead to a lasting friendship between the two. At such stage of immaturity, it is superior to keep sexual luxury out of the dating area. It is here where parents/teacher guidance is needed. Teens discuss many of things that influence them and treat is associated with it where in it is the boy who spends as per custom. It also guides to exploring the surroundings they live in and education about life as whole. Holding hands, a light kiss, a moderate touch or even slight bit of petting is ok. The very imperative is the excitement of allocation and the feeling of possessiveness, which in turn leads to maturity with the young individuals.

Teen dating is introductions to the ultimate goal of searching a life partner or a friend or even a soul mate, this does not generally happen. The reason is at such gentle age and silliness, handling relation could be not easy and the girl or boy may not be very clear of one’s like and dislike. However, it is a learning process and if the occurrence is satisfying it is valuable for both of them.

The break is fast and frequently, among dating teens due the reasons as specified before. However, the route is never ending and the result is a good friend or a hopeful life partner. Whatever the case may be the meeting of mind and body is a biological occurrence adviser by reproductive nature which manifests from sexual urge. Thus, later when maturity is gifted and sex is welcome and not a restriction as most conservative minds project it as so.

First date secrets: making a good first impression

Having first date jitters is justifiable, and no one I know can be perfectly calm before a first date. Going on a date with someone you met on a free dating website can be a bit unnerving. Even famous people get fidgety over a first date. Jerry Seinfeld once wrote in his book SeinLanguage that, “dating is pressure and tension…a job interview that lasts all night.” Although Seinfeld define it rather comically, going on a first date can be pretty overwhelming.

What you Need to Know About Drug Abuse Treatment Procedures

The meaning of “drug abuse” is described as the consumption of psychoactive drugs and sports performance enhancement drugs for non-medical purposes. Some examples of exploited drugs include alcohol, barbiturates, morphine, benzodiazepines, cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, and other opiates like hydrocodone and codeine. The other drug abuse meaning may also be grouped into four clear-cut groups: the medical definitions, the mass contact and argot usage, the social wellness definitions, and the political and criminal classifications.

Since substance abuse and drug addiction can do harm to an individual, it is important to encourage the drug addicted person to obtain drug addiction treatment. There are different kinds of addictive drugs existing nowadays. The substance abuse treatment methodology may be different from one drug variant to another. The treatment methodologies also depend on the uniqueness of the people with addiction problems and they may be different when it comes to the methodologies. A number of the addicted people face problems regarding physical and psychological issues. On other hand, there are a few addicted people who face problems regarding job-related or public issues. Unfortunately, public issues create a great deal of struggle to deal with addictive disorders/addictive conditions of the people who are addicted to illegal substances.

The attempt to stop the misuse of drugs fall short most of the time. While there are a number of evidences of short-term feats, the long-term feats are still rare. There are a number of treatment processes that were invented to help drug dependents stop their drug addiction. The treatment methodologies are consist of various approaches like damage minimization, abstinence-based systems, therapeutic treatments, pharmacotherapeutics, and legal means. The drug abuse treatment processes are separated into two groups. The first class includes a number of common drug abuse treatment services while the second set includes the criminal justice-involved treatment procedures.

DRUG ABUSE TREATMENT METHODOLOGIES:

(1) Agonist Maintenance Cure:

This treatment technique is widely used to fight drug abuse and it is often called the methadone treatment procedure. In this program, some synthetic and opiate substances such as LAAM or methadone are applied. These substances are consumed continuously at an amount that is enough to prevent the elimination of opiate and to stop the effects caused by misusing opiates. Craving for opiates also lowers as time goes by. Comprehensive counseling is ordinarily done along with this treatment process.

(2) Narcotic Antagonist Cure with Naltrexone Application:

Generally, this treatment program is an extension of the previously mentioned drug abuse treatment program. Here, Naltrexone is utilized as a replacement for LAAM or methadone, as a synthetic and long-lasting antagonist. It is of significance that the drug dependent person person is free from the opiates for some days so that the Naltrexone could be utilized. Now it has to be mentioned that this antagonist doesn’t have any subjective prospects of addiction and it has some effects too. Rehab and counseling are also required in this kind.

(3) Outpatient Drug-Free Cure:

This methodology of drug abuse treatment is becoming popular as days go by. This process is not associated with rehab. In this case, the necessary medications are given after hearing the statement of the addictive patient. As an alternative to individual counseling, the group counseling occurs in this drug abuse cure program. This program is less costly as compared to the two previously mentioned categories. This treatment procedure goes well with workers, students and those people with wide social and family encouragement.

(4) Long-Term Residential Treatment Program:

In this case, the people with addiction problems are allowed to enter especially made residential drug abuse treatment hubs with non-medical surroundings. There are numerous residential treatment services offered. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Therapeutic Community are two of the most famous kinds. These centers include patients, medical experts, counselors and other personnel. The duration of residence lasts for some six months to one year. In that duration of time, the necessary medications are provided to the addictive patients and mental counseling is done. This process is practical for the addictive patients who are unfortunate not to have the public and family encouragement that is needed.

(5) Short-Term Residential Treatment Methods:

This treatment is actually inspired by a model also known as 12-step approach. At First, this procedure was intended for alcohol addiction treatment services, but soon after it was revealed that this process is also helpful for cocaine abuse treatment services.

(6) Medical Detoxification:

In this particular type of drug abuse treatment program, the remains of prohibited drugs are released from the human body. Generally, the human body is detoxified during the period of treatment. The entire procedure is under the strict examination of an experienced physician. Additionally, it is essential to lower the addictive nature of the addictive person through counseling.

(7) Legal Treatment Services:

It is a reality that drug addiction is absolutely illegal. In cases wherein an individual is found abusing addictive drugs, he is required to experience a few drug abuse treatment techniques that comes with the penalty. There are two types of legal treatment services: the prison-based drug abuse treatment program and the community-based treatment program.

Substance abuse treatments will only be successful supposing the addictive person is given encouragement coming from his family, his pals, and the community. The addictive person must stick to the counsels provided to him by a physician or a counselor.

Berlin Flores is a wellness and nutrition essayist who is an expert when it comes to drug abuse treatment topics. Check out the drug abuse treatment webpage http://www.alcoholanddrugabuse.com for additional information regarding drug abuse treatment.

Questions and Answers About Pregnancy

Questions and Answers About Pregnancy

Q: I consumed some alcohol before I knew I was pregnant. Should I take any special precautions or have any extra tests?

A: This is not an unusual situation. Because we know alcohol enters the unborn baby’s circulation, many pregnant women worry that they may have caused harm to the baby because they drank before realizing they were pregnant. Effects of alcohol are dose-related to some extent. If you drank very heavily and often before you discovered you were pregnant, the effects on the baby are potentially greater than if you drank too much on one occasion or drank lightly on several occasions.

There are no extra tests during pregnancy that can tell you if your baby is affected. The usual observations made by your doctor or midwife (such as height measurements, heart rate monitoring, and possibly ultrasound) can detect some problems, such as growth retardation, that are sometimes associated with alcohol use. Observations of the baby after birth will allow a clearer assessment of the baby’s condition.

The two best things for you to do during pregnancy are to stop drinking alcohol (because the baby receives alcohol in his or her bloodstream whenever you drink) and to try not to worry (which, I realize, is easier said than done). Babies are resilient and not all babies whose mothers drank have apparent alcohol-related problems. Discuss your concerns with your doctor, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Q: Is it true that I should not clean my cat’s litter box while I am pregnant? Why?

A: Kitty litter carries the potential for spreading toxoplasmosis, a mild infection that may cause coldlike symptoms under normal circumstances. If you are pregnant, however, toxoplasmosis can cause serious malformations or even death of the unborn baby.

Cats, especially outdoor cats that eat rats or mice, often carry the organism that causes toxoplasmosis. You can get toxoplasmosis by petting a “carrier cat,” changing its litter box, or gardening in soil where cats have passed feces. You can also get toxoplasmosis from eating raw or undercooked meat and eating unwashed vegetables that have grown underground, such as potatoes or carrots.

It is quite likely that if you have had an outdoor cat in the past, you have had toxoplasmosis. Once you have had the disease, you are immune to it in the future. The problem is that most people do not know whether they have had it or not. If you have a cat and are concerned, you can be tested for antibodies to toxoplasmosis (which indicate that you have had the disease and are now immune to it). An absence of antibodies indicates that you are at risk. To prevent catching toxoplasmosis during pregnancy, take the following precautions:

* Cook your meat thoroughly.

* Wash your vegetables thoroughly.

* Wash your hands after you pet or handle a cat.

* Have someone else clean the litter box.

* Avoid soil and sandboxes where cats pass feces.

Q: What are the benefits of folic acid for pregnant women?

A: Folic acid supplements should be taken a month or more before conception and continued through early pregnancy. Most prenatal vitamin supplements contain the recommended daily amount of folic acid (400 micrograms).

The main benefits of folic acid are the prevention of particular birth defects, such as cleft lip, cleft palate, and neural tube defects (abnormalities in the development of the brain and spinal cord, such as spina bifida and anencephaly, the absence of a large portion of the brain). These defects occur in about 1 in 1,000 newborns but are dramatically reduced when women take folic acid before and during early pregnancy.

Folic acid is present in foods such as liver, leafy green vegetables, and yeast. It is difficult for many women to get enough folic acid through their diets. For this reason folic acid is added to prenatal vitamin preparations.

Because women with unplanned pregnancies might not get enough folic acid before pregnancy, nutritionists and maternity caregivers recommend that all fertile women take a folic acid supplement every day, whether planning pregnancy or not.

Q: Is it safe for me to get a massage during pregnancy?

A: Yes, it is safe and very helpful as well. You should, however, see a licensed massage therapist (LMT) who has had additional training in pregnancy massage. She or he will know how to safely modify massage techniques to accommodate for bodily changes that occur during pregnancy (for example, avoiding having you lie on your back or your abdomen after about four to five months of pregnancy and checking for varicose veins, excessive swelling, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other conditions).

Many massage therapists have specially designed massage tables that allow you to lie on your abdomen without putting undue pressure on your abdomen or breasts. Ask your doctor, midwife, childbirth educator, or doula for referrals.

Q: Do midwives assist only with home births?

A: No, most midwives practice in hospitals or out-of-hospital birth centers because those are the locations where most women give birth. It is true, however, that almost all home births are attended by midwives, who are experts in normal birth.

In all countries outside North and South America, midwives provide most of the maternity care, but in the United States less than 10 percent of all births are attended by midwives. The percentage is growing rapidly, however, because midwifery care is highly satisfying to women and has an excellent track record in terms of safety and cost.

Q: I was wondering when a woman can get pregnant. What are the days in the menstrual cycle that you are most likely to get pregnant? How do you determine when you are fertile in your own menstrual cycle?

A: There are only a few days before and after you ovulate when you are able to become pregnant. These days come roughly in midcycle, but timing of ovulation varies from woman to woman. There are several ways that you can determine when you ovulate, including observing changes in the mucus in your vagina (cervical mucus) and recording your temperature before rising each morning.

An excellent book on the subject is Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler (HarperPerennial, 2001). It provides complete and very helpful information on this subject and many others.

Q: What effects does stress have on pregnancy and what are the symptoms?

A: Stress during pregnancy may be related to a woman’s relationship to family and friends. Major life-changes, such as a death in the family, change in marital status, serious illness, or moving also play a significant role in stress levels. Financial situation and job or career demands are other common sources of stress.

Whatever its cause, stress can manifest itself as anxiety, exhaustion, fear, sadness, anger, or grief. Such emotions can lead to physiological changes, such as increased release of stress hormones and increased blood pressure. These effects of stress may cause premature labor or hypertension (high blood pressure). Both conditions can present problems for the baby, such as causing the baby to be small in size or immature in development.

Pregnancy adds stress to the lives of women who are already stressed. The right caregiver (midwife, doctor, or clinic) may be able to refer such women to appropriate services that can ease some of their stress.

Stress management techniques are also helpful. Many women find that yoga, meditation, and relaxation techniques help reduce stress. Self-help methods or counseling can help a woman learn how to avoid, eliminate, or better respond to stressful circumstances. The most important thing is practical and emotional support from loved ones and friends.

One important note: A pregnant woman in stressful circumstances must be careful not to blame her baby. Doing so may lead to inappropriate treatment of her innocent baby. Rather, she should address the real causes of her stress and reserve love and concern for her baby.

Q: Is it okay for me to eat sushi with raw fish while I am pregnant?

A: You should not eat sushi with raw fish because it sometimes contains parasites such as tapeworms. These parasites can make anyone sick, whether pregnant or not. The added risk during pregnancy is that your unborn baby could be deprived of necessary nutrients if your illness lasts for a long time.

When you are pregnant, cook fish well so as to kill any parasites, rather than follow the current trend of lightly searing the fish. Cook fish until it flakes when you insert a fork and twist it. Follow preparation directions in a good cookbook to determine cooking times for various kinds of shellfish. Freezing fresh seafood also kills parasites.

Today another concern regarding seafood is industrial pollution, which contaminates seafood in some geographical areas with chemicals or PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). Cooking does not destroy these substances. You should check with your community health department for information on the safety of local seafood.

Q: What vitamin supplements should I take during pregnancy?

A: Your best source of vitamins is nutritious food from all the food groups: grains; vegetables; fruits; calcium foods such as dairy products; protein foods such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dried beans, and nuts; and fats, oils, and sweets. Most doctors and midwives recommend a good diet plus prenatal vitamins for extra insurance. Prenatal vitamins are preferable to ordinary multipurpose vitamins because they are designed to meet the added nutritional demands of pregnancy.

It is also important to have your diet evaluated by a nutritionist. If you lack certain nutrients due to food allergies, intolerance, or dislike, additional amounts of specific supplements (such as calcium, iron, and others) may be recommended. A nutritionist can help you plan a diet that is in line with your taste preferences and consistent with your ethnic or religious background.

As for the decision on the specific choice of the brand and formula for your prenatal vitamins, there are numerous ones available. You and your doctor or midwife should make the choice jointly.

It is not wise or safe to take large doses of any vitamins, or to design your own supplementation program, without professional guidance. Vitamins have potential side effects on your unborn baby. One example is vitamin C, which, if taken in large quantities over several weeks or months (in hopes of preventing colds), creates a higher than usual requirement in the unborn baby, which continues after birth, causing temporary symptoms of vitamin C deficiency. Vitamins should be considered a form of medicine and taken with caution and knowledge.

Q: About how much weight should I gain during pregnancy?

A: If you are of normal weight before pregnancy, you should probably gain between 20 and 35 pounds. This weight gain includes the growing baby, as well as many of the changes your body undergoes to support the baby. The breakdown typically looks something like this:

Baby 6 to 9 pounds

Placenta 1 to 2 pounds

Uterus 2 pounds

Amniotic fluid 2 to 3 pounds

Added breast weight 1 to 2 pounds

Added blood volume 2 to 3 pounds

Added tissue fluid 4 to 6 pounds

Fat 5 to 8 pounds

Total weight gain 23 to 35 pounds

If you were underweight or overweight before pregnancy, you may benefit from gaining more or less than the recommendations for women of normal weight. Ultimately, the quality of your diet is more important than the number of pounds you gain during pregnancy.

Q: What is a doula, and why do women use doulas for assistance during childbirth?

A: A doula is a woman (or occasionally a man) who is trained and experienced in helping with childbirth. She accompanies women and their partners through the entire birth process, providing emotional support, physical comfort, and nonclinical advice. She also helps them get the information they need to make good decisions.

Women and their partners choose doulas for a number of reasons:

* The doula puts the parents’ interests first.

* The doula is knowledgeable and caring.

* The doula can help parents have the kind of birth they want and make adjustments if problems arise and unexpected interventions are needed for safety.

* The doula does not leave for a break or shift change. (Doulas take breaks only when the woman is asleep or when labor is unusually long and a backup doula is present.)

* Women who are anxious or fearful about birth or hospitals appreciate the support and reassurance a doula gives.

* Partners often feel overwhelmed by their responsibilities and want help and advice in carrying out their roles. They also appreciate being able to take a nap during a long labor without leaving the mother with no support.

* Expectant parents are impressed by research findings from numerous studies that prove that a doula’s support often results in shorter labors, fewer requests for epidural blocks, fewer cesarean births, fewer deliveries by forceps and vacuum extractor, and less postpartum depression.

Should You Read Pregnancy Miracle?

Firstly, I need to be clear upfront. This is not just an “infertility guidance” program, its an “infertility cure” program. If until now, you have been searching for getting “help with your pregnancy”, then after reading the first few chapters you’ll realize that this was not only the wrong goal, but it may as well be the reason why you’ve failed to get pregnant until now. Pregnancy Miracle will show you exactly why you should fix your internal problems that are reducing your stakes of getting pregnant and then leads on to show you how exactly to do it.

When you’ll be reading the book, you’ll realize the amount of attention that has been paid to every technique required to help you get pregnant the natural way. We all know that this is a very confusing subject and there are so many myths, lies, and false information that has been spread around for ages. Pregnancy Miracle discusses and reveals the truth behind all these myths so you get a clear idea of what actually works and what doesn’t.

Insider’s Look At Pregnancy Miracle

The Pregnancy Miracle ebook is a huge 250-page blueprint that is full of rock-solid content and it focuses on 100% natural techniques to get pregnancy quickly. The book has no recommendations for drugs or surgeries, thus keeping you far-far away from nasty side effects. In the 3-step system which forms the PM Core Formula, Lisa gives a detailed explanation of each step and then takes you into the specifics chronologically.

It also contains charts and checklists which ensures that you can digest and implement all this information properly. It also helps you keep track of where you stand, what you need to do next, and when you’ll start seeing results.

I think you may have realized that Pregnancy Miracle is not a miracle cure but a complete solution which focuses on holistic and natural methods to eliminate the root cause of fertility problems (regardless of age and location) and ensures that you get pregnant quickly. Lisa says “The dictionary is the only place success comes before work”, as she explains the “no quick fix” philosophy behind the entire book.

What’s The Bottom Line?

Anyone and everyone who want to regain their natural inner balance and get pregnant naturally will benefit from Pregnancy Miracle. Even women without fertility issues will benefit from it because its a complete health improvement program which is better than 99% of the alternative health books out there. The advice in this ebook may help you with many more health conditions such as allergies, acne, hormonal disorder, digestive problems etc.

This program has changed the lives of thousands of women all across the world and the testimonials archive (from the official website) is testament of the same.

Learning About Easy Weight Loss for Teens

Learning about easy weight loss for teens is crucial when you have an overweight teenager. Not only does being overweight as a teenager have long-term emotional consequences, but more and more studies are determining that our future cardiac health depends a lot on what we do to our bodies as adolescents. Easy weight loss for teens involves understanding the peer pressure your overweight teen may be facing and learning about the basic principles of weight loss.

Being overweight as a teen can be a brutal experience. Teasing and peer pressure is at a peak during these years as our children move from childhood to adulthood. It can be difficult to form positive attitudes that will benefit your child as an adult when he or she is constantly ridiculed for being overweight. The negative comments they receive will either be held inward or projected outward at society or people in general. Teens that are overweight may develop a poor self-image and resort to fad diets and starvation to attempt to achieve the body that so many celebrities have set as the “ideal” body. Anorexic models and extremely thin starlets are splashed all over the magazines many teens read. The diets that these dangerously thin celebrities follow are available on the internet as easy weight loss for teens.

It’s imperative that you help your teen understand what easy weight loss for teens is really about. Just as with many subjects such as sex and drugs, if they don’t hear it from you, they may follow misinformation from their peers or the media.

Help your teen understand the basics about proper nutrition. Easy weight loss for teens does not involve fad diets or starvation. You might need to educate yourself first on this subject. There’s a lot of misinformation out there regarding weight loss and proper nutrition. No carb’s, lo carb’s, maple syrup, high protein… it’s an unending list, really.

Easy weight loss for teens can be found within a simple equation. Weight maintenance dictates that calories consumed must be equivalent to caloric output. Therefore, if weight loss is desired, the equation must be shifted to have a caloric deficit. This can be achieved by lowering the amount of calories consumed, increasing caloric output via exercise or best of all, doing both.

Your teen needs to understand that easy weight loss for teens doesn’t mean fast. A healthy goal for weight loss is around one to two pounds per week. Drastically lowering calories will achieve quicker weight loss, but the trade-off is that metabolism is lowered, thus making it more difficult to lose weight in the future.

To begin easy weight loss for teens, use a calorie calculator to determine the appropriate amount of calories for your teen based on height, weight, age, sex and activity level. Calorie calculators can be found free of charge on the internet. From there, set up a plan that will create a calorie deficit of 500 to 1000 calories per day to achieve either a one pound or two pound per week weight loss goal. It’s imperative that your teen achieves this deficit through diet and exercise.

For calorie information, read food labels. Your teenager needs to read these labels and learn how to properly portion food. We live in a super-sized country. Seeing what a real portion looks like can be surprising at first. Easy weight loss for teens, however, cannot be achieved unless they understand portions and learn approximate caloric values of different foods.

Consult the food guide pyramid available at www.eatright.org for information on what types of foods your teenager should be eating. The misguided notion that carbohydrates are bad has created a lot of confusion. As long as the majority of carbohydrate consumption is whole grains, fruits and vegetables as opposed to simple carbohydrates like sweets and white breads and pastas, carb’s are okay and should be a regular part of your teenager’s diet. Choose lean meats over high fat meats and try to incorporate fish into your easy weight loss for teens plan. Dairy is also an important food group. Just remember to choose low-fat or fat free dairy products.

Above all, in learning about easy weight loss for teens don’t forget to be a positive and encouraging part of your teen’s weight loss. Try not to pressure them. They’re feeling enough pressure at school and from themselves. On a bad day, an encouraging smile and a big hug may be all they really need.

Ectopic Pregnancy: Learn About This Condition

infertilityhospital.blogspot.com

What is an Ectopic Pregnancy?
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants itself outside of the uterus. The most common place for implantation to occur in an ectopic pregnancy is in the fallopian tubes, hence the moniker “tubal pregnancy”. However, the fertilized egg may also implant in the ovary, cervix or abdomen. It is extremely rare for an ectopic pregnancy to result in a live birth.

Because the egg implants itself somewhere other than the uterus, it is not able to develop properly. As the egg grows, it stretches the organ in which it has implanted itself. Eventually, this organ, most likely the fallopian tube, will burst, increasing a woman’s risk of hemorrhaging, which requires immediate medical attention.

Signs of Ectopic Pregnancy
On the surface, symptoms of ectopic pregnancy mimic those of pregnancy, making it difficult to notice the warning signs. In general, though, typical ectopic pregnancy symptoms include:

late period
irregular vaginal bleeding
lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting
pain in the abdomen, shoulder, bladder and/or bowel

The most notable signs of ectopic pregnancy are sharp, stabbing pains, particularly in the abdomen. If you have had a positive pregnancy test and notice any of these tubal pregnancy symptoms, make an appointment with your health care provider right away.

Diagnosing a Tubal Pregnancy
Due to increased awareness about ectopic pregnancies, more prenatal health care practitioners are screening their female patients for this pregnancy complication. This increased vigilance is part of the reason why maternal death rates are declining despite the fact that ectopic pregnancy numbers are going up.

In order to diagnose an ectopic pregnancy, your health care provider will first administer a pregnancy test (if you do not already have a positive pregnancy test). Once a pregnancy is confirmed, a blood test will be performed to evaluate your levels of hCG. In a healthy pregnancy, this hormone doubles roughly every two days until the 11th week pf pregnancy. However, in tubal pregnancies, hCG levels increase at a much slower rate.

In order to determine how your hCG levels are rising, your health care provider may monitor your levels over a period of days or she may calculate what they should be based on your last menstrual period and the approximate length of your pregnancy. Blood tests done to measure the level of progesterone in your system may also be helpful as an ectopic pregnancy often produces lower than normal progesterone levels.

An ultrasound is commonly done in the early stages of pregnancy to see how the fetus is developing. During this routine procedure, your health care provider will be able to see not only your uterus, but also your fallopian tubes and ovaries. During this exam, it is possible for your health care provider to see whether the embryo has implanted in the correct location or not.

Treating an Ectopic Pregnancy
Because it is unlikely that the embryo will survive when it is implanted somewhere other than the uterus, and due to the risk of organ rupture and possibly maternal death, ectopic pregnancies are normally terminated. So long as your fallopian tube has not ruptured, this can be accomplished through the use of methotrexate, an injection drug that dissolves the embryo, allowing the body to reabsorb it. This is often preferred as it is a noninvasive procedure and helps to reduce the amount of scarring to your reproductive organs.

If it is not possible to use methotrexate, the embryo may be flushed out through a salpinostomy or removed through laparoscopy. However, if the organ in which the embryo has implanted itself ruptures, an emergency laparoscopy must be performed to remove both the embryo and the organ, most likely the fallopian tube.

Once the embryo has been removed, you will receive follow-up care and monitoring. This is done to ensure that your hCG levels return to zero. If they do not go down, you may receive further treatment with methotrexate to dissolve any lingering embryonic tissue remaining in the tube.

Affects on Fertility
Experiencing a tubal pregnancy can affect your future ability to get pregnant. If scarring, trauma or damage has occurred to your reproductive organs, either because of the pregnancy or methods used to treat the ectopic pregnancy, it can make it more difficult to conceive in the future. Additionally, experiencing an ectopic pregnancy puts you at risk of suffering another one in the future.

However, just because you have had one ectopic pregnancy does not automatically mean you will be infertile. While losing a fallopian tube does reduce your chances of pregnancy to about 40%, pregnancy is still possible. Many women who have had a tubal pregnancy are able to successfully conceive again within a year of their ectopic pregnancy.

If you are concerned about your fertility, speak with your health care provider about what you can do to preserve your fertility as well as increase your chances of pregnancy after a tubal pregnancy.

Are You at Risk?
Certain factors can put a woman at increased risk of an ectopic pregnancy. In numerous incidents, a tubal pregnancy results due to a blockage or narrowing in the fallopian tube, preventing the fertilized egg from traveling to the uterus. Factors that can increase your risk of having an ectopic pregnancy include:

Pelvic inflammatory disease
STDs
Pregnancy over age 35
Previous surgery on the fallopian tubes
Previous ectopic pregnancy
Endometriosis
Use of certain ovulation medications

Moreover, if become pregnant while using an IUD, you have a significantly increased risk of developing an ectopic pregnancy.

Azja Pryor talks about Michael Jackson being FALSELY ACCUSED of child abuse and gives reasons why

Azja Pryor is the ex-gf of Chris Tucker and mother to his son. Chris is a good friend of Michael Jackson’s. She recently wrote an open letter to the boy and family that accused Michael Jackson of child molestation during his 2005 trial. Azja Pryor and Chris Tucker knew this boy and family very well and took the stand to defend Michael during the trial. She is speaking out for the boy and the family to tell the TRUTH and exonerate Michael’s name and legacy from such heinous accusations. *No copyright infringement intended. I do not own this clip. Azja Pryor’s OPEN LETTER TO A MICHAEL JACKSON ACCUSER (THE ARVIZO FAMILY): Subpoenaed by the defense in 2005, Azja Pryor writes to Jackson’s 2nd accuser: Dear Gavin, Star, Davellin, and Janet: After Michael’s tragic death last week, I have to say that all the negative feelings I’ve had towards your family following the outrageous claims made by you Gavin and your mother Janet–against Michael–came back to me tenfold. The pain, disappointment, anger, and betrayal I feel towards you simply cannot be put into words. You have shown me that your greed, lies, and personal gain override any morals your family claims to have; and you have proven yourselves to be the kind of people capable of turning your back on the very person who came to your rescue when you were most desperate. The Truth About Average Teen Male Penis Size & What To Do About A Small Penis

Many teenagers wonder if their teen male penis size is normal. This article will discuss the average penis size from birth plus the truth about teen male penis size and why your teenage yours are the best time of your life to increase the size of your penis.

The average length of the male penis at birth is 4 cms, the average being between 2.4 and 5.5 cms. During the first five years of a boy’s life the growth of the penis is very limited. Additionally, from 5 years of age to around 13 there is also no significant penis growth.

Thank God For Puberty & The Teenage Years I’m sure you remember your teenage years when your body was buzzing with hormones in huge amounts. It is these very hormones that actually control your penis growth. It is also these very hormones that actually give you your best opportunity to create new penis growth.

Puberty is the time in a boy’s life when significant physical and emotional changes occur. Puberty is the life stage when a boy’s body is preparing for manhood. The hormones produced at puberty cause almost strange and forein changes to occur to a boy’s body. This is normal and happens to every boy.

The first noticeable physical change will be your testes getting larger. You will also see the onset of pubic hair. It is also at this point that your penis size will start to increase.

Prior to puberty boys only experience “dry” orgasms. However, with the onset of puberty boys experience ejaculation and an increase in sex drive.

The increased production of hormones and testosterone in a boy’s body also causes the foreskin to retract in puberty.

The Average Teen Penis Size According To Age 25 percent of men consider themselves to be late developers in penis size. This is good news for boys as some penises are in fact not fully grown until the boy reaches around 16 years of age. If at the age of 16 or 17 you have not seen a significant increase in penis size then you may want to see your doctor for advice or look at penis enlargement options.

As a result of the huge demand for information about the teen penis size studies and reports have been generated after studying hundreds and even thousands of patients. These measurements are taken from the tip of the penis to the base.

Age 11 – 3 inches aroused

Age 12 – 3.8 inches aroused.

Age 13 – 4.8 inches

Age 14 – 5.4 inches

Age 15 – 5.6 inches

Age 16 – 5.7 inches

Age 17 – 5.8 inches

Age 18 – 5.8 inches

Age 19+ – 5.9 inches

As evident from the chart above, penis growth will significantly slow down. Between 5 and 13 years of age is the quickest time for the penis to increase in size. Of course, teen penis size as well as grown men penis size differs for individuals. If you do not notice any significant penis growth after puberty has stopped and your penis size is troubling you then consult your doctor or look at permanent penis enlargement methods available.

Things You Should Know About Teen Chat Rooms

Do you really know what your teen is doing in that chat room? You might think it’s harmless fun ? and it could be. However, it could also be something far more dangerous, and as a parent you need to find out before problems get started. If you’re going to allow your son or daughter access to a teen chat room, follow these simple tips:

– Monitor the Internet use that your child is involved with. Don’t give them access to the Internet when they’re not supervised.

- Know who your child is talking to in a teen chat room. If you don’t know them and your child won’t introduce them, they should be blocked and have no further contact with your child.

- Make sure your son or daughter is only going to a teen chat room that’s moderated by adults.

Another thing you should know about teen chat rooms is that teens often use a lot of acronyms and abbreviations so that adults don’t understand what they’re saying. Avoid this problem by knowing some of these common terms:

1. AITR: This abbreviation is for Adult In The Room.

2. P911: Parent Emergency ? used when it parent suddenly appears or becomes nosy. There are a lot of different ways to say this.

3. MIRL: Meet In Real Life. This is an important one and can be especially dangerous. You should know where your teen is and who he or she is meeting with at all times.

4. S2R: Send To Receive (pictures) ? this could be innocent, but sometimes pornographic pictures are sent this way, as well.

5. LMIRL: (Lets) Meet In Real Life. Just a variation on number nine.

6. CD9: Code 9 ? this is a more hidden way of saying that parents are around.

7. E or X: Ecstasy (the drug). This could be vital teen chat information and help you as a parent determine if your child has a drug problem or if he or she is being offered drugs in a teen chat room.

8. ASL(R P) : Age Sex Location (Race / Picture). Obviously a concern. Gender and race are not that important, but age, sex, and location, as well as a picture, could lead a sexual predator right to your child’s doorstep.

9. TDTM: Talk Dirty To Me. Not much to say about this one. It could easily be the first sign a parent might have that their teen either is, or is about to become, sexually active.

Teens and Sex How To Talk To Them About Sexuality

Sex is the last thing a parent wants to hear coming out of their children?s mouth. It is a nightmare and an unwanted thought when thinking about your child and sex at the same time. As they get older, there are some curious thoughts that go through their mind. Frightening as it sounds; communication is the key between you and your child when it comes to sexuality. We as parents cannot be there for out children 24 hours a day, all we can do is instill some experience and knowledge into their minds and hope it guides them intellectually to the right decisions in life.

When you child approaches you about sex, take a deep breath, it can be an unnerving and an uncomfortable feeling? It?s not going to be easy at first, but in the end, you will feel better about talking about it. Ask your teen what lead them to ask you this question. If they tell you that someone they have interest in has brought it to their attention, then it is ok. Hopefully they have not done anything yet. With the way society is with our kids growing up in it, peer pressure can be a bit overwhelming and more likely some teens might give in to it.

Explain to them that their body is a precious temple, keeping it pure and maintaining their virginity is a very rare and special thing. State that even though they might be thinking about doing it; they are simply too young for such an experience and the best thing to do is to wait until they are older and more mature. Inform them that just because you have feelings for someone it doesn?t necessarily have to be any sexual involvement, that there are consequences when having sex and even though your teen might think they know all about it, there is always more to tell.

Unprotected sex can lead to you contracting a sexually transmitted disease, like gonorrhea that can cause inflammation of the genital mucous membrane, burning pain when urinating, and a discharge. It is caused by a gonococcus bacterium. Another disease to worry about is PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) an inflammation of a woman?s reproductive organs in the pelvic area, which can cause infertility.

Syphilis is a serious sexually transmitted disease caused by the spirally twisted bacterium Treponema pallidum that affects many body organs and parts, including the genitals, brain, skin, and nervous tissue, and Chlamydia, which can cause infertility, chronic pain, or a tubal pregnancy if left untreated. Many diseases can be contracted with oral and sexual intercourse. Oral sex is not safe and you still can catch certain diseases in your mouth.

Love can be a cruel emotion. Let you child know that just because they feel strongly towards another person, it does not mean that their feeling are mutual. Sex can be the only issue with the other person; he or she could be out to use you for it. Help them to understand that if they are not willing to wait for the right time, then that person might not be such a good influence on them.

Motherhood is a hard job; a child simply cannot raise a child. They have plenty of time to grow up, get their education and then they can decide if being a parent is what they want. Life is so good; they should be able to enjoy it while they can without any setbacks. Sex is a way of two people showing their love for one another. It is not something to take lightly. Giving up your virginity is a very important choice and you should not be coursed into it.

Trust and communication is so crucial to you and your child?s relationship. Your child being able to come to you and talk to you about the most important things that are going on in their life is so necessary. Knowing how your child feels and what is going on in their life without being too concerned, makes an open and great relationship between you two.

If you think that your child might go that way, then talking to them about birth control is an option. Sometimes talking does some good, but not enough and they still might end up having intercourse. Just be safe, let them know about birth control methods to prevent pregnancy. It?s hard I know, but you rather educate them and be safe about it, then to do nothing at all.

Good luck, being a parent is hard work. We want the best for our babies, sometimes it is hard to separate the day they were born from the day that they became adults. We wish our children could stay the cute adorable babies that they once were. They have to grow up, there might be drama, rebellion, and a lot of hair in the sink, but in the end, we love unconditionally and appreciate every single moment.

All About Teen Obesity

Teen Obesity is seen in children and teens between the ages of 6 to 19 years old. It is rising to epidemic proportions in America. A large number of teens are therefore at a high risk to develop high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease. This is the result of teen obesity.
The teenagers who face obesity problems may also have to face social discrimination that can be quite devastating. Being overweight reduces their self-esteem and self-confidence and keeps them away from participating in a number of active activities with children of their age. The obese children may be highly depressed thus, they prefer to stay back at home and indulge in activities like watching TV and having snacks. This leads to additional weight gain, depression and more serious health issues.
What is the Cause of Teen Obesity?
Basically, Teen Obesity is a result of inadequate physical activities and unhealthy eating habits. Day to Day, activities such as playing video games, sitting in front of the computer and the lack of physical activity is making more teens obese.
Another cause of Teen Obesity is diet. These days, diets mainly consists of sugary snacks, fast foods, oily and fried food items, and in addition to this eating in restaurants is also an affect. These foods directly contribute in developing obesity. A teen?s diet should consist of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, sprouts and curd. Such a diet will help teens to develop a healthy weight, a proper waist-to-hip ratio, and reduce the risk for developing diabetes.
Teens should also be encouraged to participate in activities that can play a vital role in reducing obesity. Getting teens involved in activities like swimming, playing basketball, tennis, volleyball, rocket ball, trekking & skating will ensure that they burn out the extra calories and hence maintain a healthy weight. Practicing any one of these activities daily and teens will notice a big difference. It is encouraged that teens choose activities that are fun as well as healthy.
Studies have shown that obesity can be reversed in teens. It is a lot easier to catch it early than in a later stage in life.
Parents play a very critical role in the child?s life to avoid the problems of obesity. They have to guide them to develop healthy food habits, exercise regularly and indulge in other physical activities to maintain good health. Always remember, scolding the child for being overweight without guiding them is useless. Instead, they need to explain the significance of losing weight, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and portraying a positive image to their children.

Vital Information About Ectopic Pregnancy

What is Ectopic Pregnancy? Ectopic may be defined as an organ or body part existing in an unusual form or position. Ectopic pregnancy is one which is developing in the wrong place. In an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized egg or ovum fails to move down through the fallopian tube to the uterus. Instead, it develops outside the womb. The ovum may attach itself to the fallopian tube, the ovary, cervix, or any other organ within the pelvic and abdominal organ. Most ectopic pregnancies lead to immediate miscarriage, while others need medical attention.

Reasons for Ectopic Pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancies occur in women with damaged fallopian tubes. A history of pelvic inflammatory disease, previous surgery, scar tissue, endometriosis, or previous ectopic pregnancies increases the likelihood of such a pregnancy. Chances of ectopic pregnancies increase if you become pregnant while using a contraceptive-coil or a progestogen only contraceptive pill. Even in-vitro fertilizations are known to be ectopic despite the fact that the ovum is directly placed into the womb. The ovum may attach itself somewhere else, leading to ectopic pregnancy. Sometimes, women suffer from this despite not having any of the above risk factors.

Symptoms of Ectopic Pregnancy

Pain on one side of the abdomen is the first sign of ectopoic pregnancy. This pain is often severe and constant and starts suddenly. Pain in shoulder, which intensifies when breathing in and out, is also a sign of ectopic pregnancy. Pain while using the bathroom may also indicate towards this type of pregnancy. Other symptoms include sickness, diarrhoea, light headedness, paleness, collapse, falling blood pressure, and vaginal bleeding or unusual periods.

Diagnosis

An ectopic pregnancy is often difficult to diagnose, as the symptoms are that of a normal pregnancy, such as tender breasts, nausea, frequent urination, missed period, and vomiting. However, in case you notice any of the signs discussed above, you must consult your physician immediately.

A urine test may not be a surest way to detect ectopic pregnancy; but a positive result for a specialized HCG blood test will confirm it. An internal pelvic examination will reveal that the womb is smaller in an ectopic pregnancy than in a normal pregnancy at the same stage of pregnancy. A swelling is also a sign of this type of pregnancy. An ultrasound is the safest bet when it comes to detecting this type of pregnancy.

Treatment

Most ectopic pregnancies need to be surgically treated or need proper medication. Without such medical intervention, the pregnancy can turn fatal to the mother. With technological advancements, it has become a lot easier to detect an ectopic pregnancy. Also, the treatment of such a pregnancy has improved, for example, keyhole surgery. Techniques like laparoscopy or laprotomy can by used to remove the misplaced ovum.

Future Pregnancies

You must understand that even if you have had an ectopic pregnancy, you will be likely to have successful pregnancies in the future. It is advisable to wait for several cycles before attempting to become pregnant again. Most women are known to become pregnant again with a healthy pregnancy as soon as they attempted again.

If you suspect you are carrying an ectopic pregnancy, you must consult a physician immediately. The ectopic pregnancy symptoms are the alarm of a pregnancy risk and it has to be taken seriously. Visit Pregnancy Problems

Suicide Attempts Link Statistics About Teen Suicide and Teen Depression

Teen suicide is becoming more common every year in South America. In fact, only car accidents and homicides (murders) kill more people between the ages of 18 and 30, making suicide the third leading cause of death in teens and overall in youths ages 14 to 22 years old.

Thinking About Suicide It’s common for teens to think about death to some degree. Teens’ thinking capabilities have matured in a way that allows them to think more deeply – about their existence in the world, the meaning of life, and other profound questions and ideas. Unlike kids, teens realize that death is permanent. They may begin to consider spiritual or philosophical questions such as what happens after people die. To some, death, and even suicide, may seem poetic (consider Romeo and Juliet, for example). To others, death may seem frightening or be a source of worry. For many, death is mysterious and beyond our human experience and understanding.

Thinking about suicide goes beyond normal ideas teens may have about death and life. Wishing to be dead, thinking about suicide, or feeling helpless and hopeless about how to solve life’s problems are signs that a teen may be at risk – and in need of help and support. Beyond thoughts of suicide, actually making a plan or carrying out a suicide attempt is even more serious.

What makes some teens begin to think about suicide – and even worse, to plan or do something with the intention of ending their own lives? One of the biggest factors is depression. Suicide attempts are usually made when a person is seriously depressed or upset. A teen who is feeling suicidal may see no other way out of problems, no other escape from emotional pain, or no other way to communicate their desperate unhappiness.

The Link Between Depression and Suicide

The majority of suicide attempts and suicide deaths happen among teens with depression. Consider these statistics about teen suicide and teen depression: about 1% of all teens attempts suicide and about 1% of those suicide attempts results in death (that means about 1 in 10,000 teens dies from suicide). But for adolescents who have depressive illnesses, the rates of suicidal thinking and behavior are much higher. Most teens who have depression think about suicide, and between 15% and 30% of teens with serious depression who think about suicide go on to make a suicide attempt.

Keep in mind that most of the time for most teens depression is a passing mood. The sadness, loneliness, grief, and disappointment we all feel at times are normal reactions to some of the struggles of life. With the right support, some resilience, an inner belief that there will be a brighter day, and decent coping skills, most teens can get through the depressed mood that happens occasionally when life throws them a curve ball.

But sometimes depression doesn’t lift after a few hours or a few days. Instead it lasts, and it can seem too heavy to bear. When someone has a depressed or sad mood that is intense and lingers almost all day, almost every day for 2 weeks or more, it may be a sign that the person has developed major depression. Major depression, sometimes called clinical depression, is beyond a passing depressed mood – it is the term mental health professionals use for depression that has become an illness in need of treatment. Another form of serious depression is called bipolar disorder, which includes extreme low moods (major depression) as well as extreme high moods (these are called manic episodes).

Though children can experience depression, too, teens are much more vulnerable to major depression and bipolar illness. Hormones and sleep cycles, which both change dramatically during adolescence, have an effect on mood and may partly explain why teens (especially girls) are particularly prone to depression. Believe it or not, as many as 20% of all teens have had depression that’s this severe at some point. The good news is that depression is treatable – most teens get better with the right help.

It’s not hard to see why serious depression and suicide are connected. Serious depression (with both major depression and bipolar illness) involves a long-lasting sad mood that doesn’t let up, and a loss of pleasure in things you once enjoyed. It also involves thoughts about death, negative thoughts about oneself, a sense of worthlessness, a sense of hopelessness that things could get better, low energy, and noticeable changes in appetite or sleep.

Depression also distorts a person’s viewpoint, allowing them to focus only on their failures and disappointments and to exaggerate these negative things. Depressed thinking can convince someone there is nothing to live for. The loss of pleasure that is part of depression can seem like further evidence that there’s nothing good about the present. The hopelessness can make it seem like there will be nothing good in the future; helplessness can make it seem like there’s nothing you can do to change things for the better. And the low energy that is part of depression can make every problem (even small ones) seem like too much to handle.

When major depression lifts because a person gets the proper therapy or treatment, this distorted thinking is cleared and they can find pleasure, energy, and hope again. But while someone is seriously depressed, suicidal thinking is a real concern. When teens are depressed, they often don’t realize that the hopelessness they feel can be relieved and that hurt and despair can be healed.

What Else Puts Teens at Risk for Suicide?

In addition to depression, there are other emotional conditions that can put teens at greater risk for suicide – for example, girls and guys with conduct disorder are at higher risk. This may be partly because teens with conduct disorder have problems with aggression and may be more likely than other teens to act in aggressive or impulsive ways to hurt themselves when they are depressed or under great stress. The fact that many teens with conduct disorder also have depression may partly explain this, too. Having both serious depression and conduct disorder increases a teen’s risk for suicide.

Substance abuse problems also put teens at risk for suicidal thinking and behavior. Alcohol and some drugs have depressive effects on the brain. Misuse of these substances can bring on serious depression, especially in teens prone to depression because of their biology, family history, or other life stressors.

Besides depressive effects, alcohol and drugs alter a person’s judgement. They interfere with the ability to assess risk, make good choices, and think of solutions to problems. Many suicide attempts occur when a teen is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Teens with substance abuse problems often have serious depression or intense life stresses, too, further increasing their risk.

Life Stress and Suicidal Behavior

Let’s face it – being a teen is not easy for anyone. There are many new social, academic, and personal pressures. And for teens who have additional problems to deal with, life can feel even more difficult. Some teens have been physically or sexually abused, have witnessed one parent abusing another at home, or live with lots of arguing and conflict at home. Others witness violence in their neighborhoods. Many teens have parents who divorce, and others may have a parent with a drug or alcohol addiction.

Some teens are struggling with concerns about sexuality and relationships, wondering if their feelings and attractions are normal, if they will be loved and accepted, or if their changing bodies are developing normally. Others struggle with body image and eating problems, finding it impossible to reach a perfect ideal, and therefore having trouble feeling good about themselves. Some teens have learning problems or attention problems that make it hard for them to succeed in school. They may feel disappointed in themselves or feel they are a disappointment to others.

All these things can affect mood and cause some people to feel depressed or to turn to alcohol or drugs for a false sense of soothing. Without the necessary coping skills or support, these social stresses can increase the risk of serious depression and, therefore, of suicidal ideas and behavior. Teens who have had a recent loss or crisis or who had a family member who committed suicide may be especially vulnerable to suicidal thinking and behavior themselves.

Guns and Suicide Risk

Finally, having access to guns is extremely risky for any teen who has any of the other risk factors. Depression, anger, impulsivity, life stress, substance abuse, feelings of alienation or loneliness – all these factors can place a teen at major risk for suicidal thoughts and behavior. Availability of guns along with one or more of these risk factors is a deadly equation. Many teen lives could be saved by making sure those who are at risk don’t have access to guns.

Different Types of Suicidal Behaviors

Teen girls attempt suicide far more often (about nine times more often) than teen guys, but guys are about four times more likely to succeed when they try to kill themselves. This is because teen guys tend to use more deadly methods, like guns or hanging. Girls who try to hurt or kill themselves tend to use overdoses of medications or cutting. More than 60% of teen suicide deaths happen with a gun. But suicide deaths can and do occur with pills and other harmful substances and methods.

Sometimes a depressed person plans a suicide in advance. Many times, though, suicide attempts are not planned in advance, but happen impulsively, in a moment of feeling desperately upset. Sometimes a situation like a breakup, a big fight with a parent, an unintended pregnancy, being harmed by abuse or rape, being outed by someone else, or being victimized in any way can cause a teen to feel desperately upset. In situations such as these, teens may fear humiliation, rejection, social isolation, or some terrible consequence they think they can’t handle. If a terrible situation feels too overwhelming, a teen may feel that there is no way out of the bad feeling or the consequences of the situation. Suicide attempts can occur under conditions like this because, in desperation, some teens – at least for the moment – see no other way out and they impulsively act against themselves.

Sometimes teens who feel or act suicidal mean to die and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes a suicide attempt is a way to express the deep emotional pain they’re feeling in hopes that someone will get the message they are trying to communicate.

Even though a teen who makes a suicide attempt may not actually want or intend to die, it is impossible to know whether an overdose or other harmful action they may take will actually result in death or cause a serious and lasting illness that was never intended. Using a suicide attempt to get someone’s attention or love or to punish someone for hurt they’ve caused is never a good idea. People usually don’t really get the message, and it often backfires on the teen. It’s better to learn other ways to get what you need and deserve from people. There are always people who will value, respect, and love you – sure, sometimes it takes time to find them – but it is important to value, respect, and love yourself, too.

Unfortunately, teens who attempt suicide as an answer to problems tend to try it more than once. Though some depressed teens may first attempt suicide around age 13 or 14, suicide attempts are highest during middle adolescence. Then by about age 17 or 18, the rate of teen suicide attempts lowers dramatically. This may be because with maturity, teens have learned to tolerate sad or upset moods, have learned how to get support they need and deserve, and have developed better coping skills to deal with disappointment or other difficulties.

Implantation Bleeding During Pregnancy is Scary. Reassuring Facts About Implantation Bleeding

What is implantation bleeding?

It is not unusual that some women experience implantation bleeding in the early stages of pregnancy. Any vaginal bleeding outside implantation bleeding of pregnancy is classified as a threatened miscarriage, meaning the pregnancy is threatening to miscarriage. About 25% of all pregnancies are actually miscarried but 50% of all threatened miscarriages settle down and a normal pregnancy happens.

When does implantation bleeding occur?

Implantation bleeding occurs very early in pregnancy as a direct result of the fertilized egg (your growing baby) burying and snuggling its way into the lining of your womb. Implantation bleeding occurs about 10-14 days after the egg has been fertilized or when conception occurred. This is also around the time when your menstrual cycles would be expected.

Signs of Implantation Bleeding:

Signs of implantation bleeding can vary from one pregnant woman to another. It normally mild in nature and is much lighter than a normal menstrual period.

The color of implantation bleeding:

The color of implantation bleeding can vary form bright red to brown implantation bleeding. Bright red implantation bleeding means that there is an active area of bleeding within the womb and blood is flowing from the site of implantation to the vagina very quickly. It may indicate that implantation has just occurred.

Brown implantation bleeding is the color of old blood. When you get brown implantation bleeding it normally means that when the fertilized egg buried it way into the womb, a little blood was released. The bleeding that occurred at the moment of implantation stayed in the womb for some time so by the time you see it on your underwear or when you wipe yourself it showed up as brown implantation bleeding.

How long does implantation bleeding last?

Most cases of implantation bleeding last for a few minutes to a few days. If implantation bleeding lasts more than a few days then it may be a sign of vaginal infection or a threatened miscarriage.

How heavy is implantation bleeding?

Heavy implantation bleeding is unusual. The only thing you might notice with implantation bleeding is a pinkish or brown discharge when you wipe yourself after you go to the bathroom.

Cramps with implantation bleeding:

Cramps with implantation bleeding can happen. You may even experience cramps with or without bleeding. The reason you may experience cramps with implantation bleeding is because as the fertilized egg buries into your womb, it caused the muscle of your womb to contract. These contractions press on nerve endings and may result in mild to moderate menstrual like pains for 24-48 hours.

What to do if you have signs of implantation bleeding:

Don?t panic if you have any of the above signs of implantation bleeding. Remember 50% of all cases of implantation bleeding end up in a normal pregnancy.

Know your blood type. Depending on your partner?s blood type and if you are a rhesus negative blood type then it may be necessary to have an Rh-immune globulin injection within 24 hours of any pregnancy bleeding.

If you suspect you may be pregnant and your bleeding is from implantation bleeding then do a home pregnancy test. This home test should remain positive. If it is positive and you do not know your blood Rhesus factor, then call your provider for consultation for possible Rh-immune globulin.

Never insert a tampon, douche, or have sexual intercourse while you are bleeding.

Keep track of whether the bleeding is increasing or decreasing and how many pads you are using.

If you feel your pregnancy bleeding is heavier or lasting longer than the above ranges then call your health care provider for consultation immediately.

Bleeding during pregnancy is scary. Your fear is picked up by your unborn child. Intra uterine fear can stay with your child for a lifetime, so constantly reassure your baby that he or she is wanted and loved. The One Thing You Need to Know about Team Motivation

Let me ask you a simple question. Do you, as a manager, want a highly motivated team who don?t take time off work, who achieve their goals and objectives, and don?t stress you out in the process?
I?m sure the answer is – Yes! However, you?re no doubt asking how you?re supposed to achieve this ?miracle.?

The one thing you need to know about team motivation is that ? there?s no such thing! Okay, so the football manager ?motivates? the team by getting them together at half-time and ?explaining? how they?re about to lose the game unless they start to play a lot better. (This, of course, is the polite version)

However, the only way to build a highly motivated team is to concentrate on individual motivation and create an environment where the individual ?motivates them self.?
Every member of your team is a complex and complicated human being and they all have different needs. Your job, as a Motivational Manager, is to find out what these needs are, and satisfy them.

There are 3 actions you can take

1. Spend some quality time with each team member – One or two minutes of quality time on a regular basis is far more productive than an appraisal once a year. You need to get to know the individual better and they need to get to know you. You?ll gain a much better understanding of them and how they?re handling the job. It will also send the message that you care about them and show that you?re there to help with problems, both personal and business.

2. Give feedback and coach them – You need to regularly tell each of your team members when they?re doing well and when not so well.
This is where so many employers and managers fall down in dealing with their people; they’re hopeless at giving feedback! Many managers are uncomfortable telling staff how they feel about their work performance. Some managers still believe – “Why should I praise people when they’re only doing what they’re paid to do!”
However, most employees want to know how they are performing in their job; they want to know if they are doing it right or how they could do it better.
If you really want to motivate your team members then you need to ?catch them doing something right? and tell them about it. If, on the other hand, you hear or observe them doing something you?re not happy about, then you need to tell them what needs improved and coach them.
It?s important to tell the team member when they?re not performing. There are too many managers who either ignore poor behaviour or come down on the person like a ton of bricks. There are particular ways to give feedback and coach and they?re described in detail in my book ? How to be a Motivational Manager.

3. Be a believer – You need to constantly demonstrate to the team member that you trust and believe in them, by what you say, your tone of voice and your body language.
They will very quickly sense if you don’t trust them to carry out their job and they’ll act accordingly.
If you believe that your people are not to be trusted to do their job; that they?ll turn up late and go home early, then that is exactly what they’ll do.
On the other hand, if you believe that your people will do their job well, that they can be trusted to make decisions that are good for the business and that they’ll give you a fair day’s work, then it is more likely this is what you’ll get.
As with all theories, there is no guarantee that this will work every time. However the majority of people in this world are reasonable people; if you treat them as such they’re more likely to behave in a positive manner.

So there you have it; Motivational Managers know that to get the best out of their people they need to concentrate on the human interactions and make that emotional connection with each individual team member.
