Child Abuse Custody – When Psychiatrics and Family Law Collide

“My child is being abused at her father’s home. When she reaches out to mental healthcare providers and I reach out to my attorney, all hell breaks lose and the helpers can’t tell what’s really going on.” Sound familiar?

Most people realize that mental health and family law need each other, but fail to recognize how the actions of one blind the other in the context of child abuse custody disputes.

Child Custody and Domestic Violence

Custody disputes are central to family law and when one parent sees it fit to pursue custody, the battle begins. Now in most cases (barring domestic violence divorce), this warfare genuinely serves to protect the minor children.

In cases of family violence, however, it is all about control. The controlling litigant seeks to maintain control over the family by obtaining custody of the children. And sadly, the trends in family court are that this parent is more likely than not to prevail. The unfortunate net result is that the court endorses the domestic abuse dynamics and their actions serve to perpetuate the cycle of family violence…both at home and in court.

With this arrangement, we can expect the child abuse to show itself in family court, again and again. The placement of an abused child in his/her abusive parent’s custody is fertile ground for another custody battle when finances allow.

The abuse to the child invariably continues behind the custodial parent’s closed doors. And the knowledge of it leaks out into the protective parent’s home during visitation.

As time goes on, the tension builds… The child continues to be abused and the protective parent continues to worry about the well-being of their abused child.

The Collision of Mental Health and Family Law

Now, as one might expect there is a climax coming and it generally presents in the form of a psychiatric hospitalization for the abused child. This hospitalization can be inspired by the abused child acting out or by the abusive parent throwing the towel in…and giving up.

What the healthcare providers see is the leftover havoc of child abuse custody. Here’s how it unfolds from this point.

Once the declaration is made that the abused child is compromised in the custody of the abusive parent, then the protective parent charges in to ask the court to modify child custody.

But this request can then become the abusive parent’s club to influence the healthcare providers, diverting their attention from the child abuse. Suddenly, it is not clear to them if they are dealing with a child compromised by the polarization of the child’s parent’s dispute or by the hands of the child’s abusive parent.

Instead, we are left with the collision of family law and psychiatrics. And the abused child falls between the cracks of these colliding systems.

If you are in a post divorce custody dispute, be mindful of the right and wrong way to interact with mental health. Your knowledge of this will help the healthcare providers recognize your abused child’s reality for what it is, rather than being confused by the custody combat.

The following concluding statement is totally different from the above which will be about the children who get less care from their parents.

INCREASING CASES OF CHILD ABUSE IN THE SOCIETY: CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES AND SOLUTIONS

INCREASING CASES OF CHILD ABUSE IN THE SOCIETY: CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES AND SOLUTIONS

One of the blessings of marriage is ‘child’. Every married couple prays to have a child that can immortalize their names and uplift their status in the society in future. It is one thing for a couple to be blessed with child after marriage, it is however another thing for such child to grow up to the level that he / she can be useful to himself  / herself and be able to perform the roles expected of him / her in the family and society.

Over the years, cases of child abuse are prevalent in many countries in the world, particularly in African continent and reported in newspapers, radio and television. It has been a cause of concern and worry to government of the concerned countries. What constitutes child abuse can be understood from its component words. Child abuse is a synergy of two words: ‘child’ and ‘abuse’. Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary of English defines ‘abuse’ as ‘the act of making a bad or wrong use of something’. Child abuse is thus the act of using child in a bad or wrong way.

Child abuse has wider scope in the society including the act of:

-                     trafficking of child (ren) by some individuals in the society;

-                     making use of child as housemaid thus subjecting him / her  to different inhuman treatments;

-                     making use of a child to sell goods, foodstuffs and other items in the open market and along the streets ,thus exposing him / her to hazards like accident, bad weather and kidnapping;

-                     illicit relationship of male teacher(s) with female pupil / student in school to the extent of having sexual intercourse with him / her;

-                     making use of a child for ritual and during ritual rites in the society. In some countries in Africa, virgin female children are used for celebration of some annual traditional festivals and rituals. In most cases, parts of the body of such children like breast, waist are exposed;

-                     putting tribal marks on the face of a child at a tender age thus subjecting him / her to severe pain;

-                     making use of a child as political thug during electoral campaigns and other political activities;

-                     circumcision of female child at a tender age (which is prevalent in African countries) thus subjecting him / her to severe pain in the reproductive organ;

-                     luring female child into prostitution by wealthy male (s) in the society. In some countries, female children are usually recruited for prostitution by traffickers with the promise of jobs in foreign countries;

-                     engaging pupil / student in different kinds of extra curricular and unapproved  errands and other activities in the school like farming, selling, washing of clothes by teachers;

-                     Over-flogging of a child by teacher(s) in school and by parents / guardians at home.

The prevailing cases of cases of child abuse in the society nowadays are traceable to several factors, one of these being poverty. It is obvious that the society is now poverty ridden as many households and families are living below standard in many countries in the world. The need to make additional income for their sustenance makes many families to engaging their children in the act selling of goods and other items. In some African countries, it is a norm that pupils / students must sell goods and other items after school period to raise money for the family and for their education.

There is no doubt that the value system of most countries today favour wealth making at all cost and by whatever means. It is thus not surprising that many people are now desperate to make money. Some people do resort to rituals to achieve their goal and make use of children in the process. A society where wealthy individuals are worshipped while the poor are scorned cannot but record cases of child abuse.

Inability of government to enforce strict disciplinary measure against those involved in the act is further encouraging it. In most countries, cases of child abuse are only reported in the media while leaving the culprits to be celebrated and worshipped in the society rather than being reprimanded to serve as deterrent to others.

It has been observed that high cost of education discourages many parents from enrolling their children in school while also encouraging many pupils / students to drop out of school prematurely. In Northern part of Nigeria as example, many school-going age children termed ‘almajiris’ roam along the streets today begging for food, clothes and other necessaries. These un-educated and hopeless children are often recruited as thugs during riots, political campaigns and religious protests while some are used for rituals.

There is no doubt that peaceful co-existence of couple is imperative for the dividends of marriage are to be enjoyed. When there is conflict between couple however, this can lead to separation and divorce. Observation reveals that children from broken home lack adequate parental care. Such children are usually separated from their father and open to social vices like stealing, armed robbery, thurgery, prostitution to keep the body and soul together and keep themselves busy. It is thus not surprising that at the point of death, many armed robbers had confessed that they took to robbery due to neglect by their parents. Many children from broken homes also end up as housemaids in other households and as street children who sleep under the bridge and along the major streets in the society.

A biblical passage goes: ‘teach your child the way he / she should go and when he / she is old would not depart from it’. In some countries, couples are over absorbed by their work or business to the extent that they do not show much concern for their children. In those families, care of children is entrusted to the housemaid who in most cases finds it difficult to correct the wrong doings of the children for fear of being sacked by their master.

There is no gainsaying the fact that in many nations of the world today, issue of unemployment of youths is a major concern of the leaders. Most of the outputs of educational institutions in many countries in the world today are unemployed.  Many of these unemployed youths are easily recruited into prostitution in the society because ‘Devil usually finds work for idle hands’. Child traffickers through the promise of jobs in oversea countries easily deceive many of the female unemployed youths. Over the years, countries in Africa have been characterized by poor economy thus making many households to be poor while also encouraging the exodus of youths to foreign countries in search of opportunities to make money. In the process, child traffickers deceive them.

In some countries, it has been a habit for teachers to make use of pupils / students for activities like farming, trading, washing of clothes, cooking, among others. Some male teachers are often involved in illicit relationship with their female pupils / students to the extent of having sexual affair with them in exchange for marks, money and other gifts.

Cultural factor in some countries further plays significant role in child abuse. In some African countries like Nigeria, female children are circumcised while tribal marks are put on the face, hands and chest of children at tender age for recognition in the future. In some countries where democracy is at infancy stage, politicians engage children as thugs for their selfish interests.

The issue of child abuse has many negative consequences. It causes premature death of children. Many of the teenage children that sell goods along the streets die off through rituals and accident while many usually suffer from sickness / illness due to over exposure to bad weather.

Many of the cases of teenage pregnancy are traceable to teacher / pupil / student relationship in school thus encouraging over-population in the society because many babies are born without adequate resources to cater for them. Cases of social vices like armed robbery, prostitution, terrorism, stealing, thugery and others in many nations in the world today, can be linked with child abuse.

A country where child abuse is prevalent has low status among the comity of nations while the citizens are treated as ‘pariah’ among their colleagues at international level. Abused child has low emotion because most of them are usually not happy with their situation. They feel inferior among their colleagues in the society.

At present, many nations in the world are working towards achieving ‘Education for All’ and ‘Millennium Development Goals’, having realized the roles of Education towards their development. Issue of child abuse undermines enrolment in schools and encourages dropping out thus undermining the realization of these objectives.

Stakeholders of Education including government, parents / guardians. Institutions’ administrators have roles to play to ensure that the menace of child abuse is eradicated in view of its negative consequences. There is therefore the need for parents to be alive to their responsibilities at the home setting. They should avoid indulging their children in street selling of goods and other items and should always educate them on the dangers inherent in premarital sex.

Government of those countries without anti child abuse law should enact this while those having such law should enforce it to serve as deterrent to others and should continue to promote anti child abuse activities in the society by sponsoring workshops, lectures, conferences and symposiums on the menace.

There should be proper orientation of youths in the society against the negative effects of child abuse in the print and news media educational institutions’ administrators should be alive to their responsibilities in their respective institutions.

Government should provide more jobs for the youths who are easily deceived by child traffickers in the society. In as much as white collar job cannot be provided for every youths in the society, government should empower more youths through skill acquisition training and provide loan for the youths to establish small scale or cottage industries. Private sector should assist government in the provision of jobs by establishing companies and business outfits in the society.

There is need for the improvement of the economy of countries in he world so as to discourage the massive drifts of youths in less developed to the developed countries to search for opportunities and make more income which have been opening them to agents of trafficking and other social vices.

Parents should continue to give proper moral training to their children to be able to grow up and be useful to the family and their society.

How To Prevent Child Abuse Using A Hidden Camera

There is really only one way to prove to authorities if your child is being abused and that is to trust the person who watches your children in the first place. But often the person you trust is a child abuser or even worse, a child molester which will psychologically destroy the child later in life. So who can you trust. The sad truth is you can trust no one. Not you fiends, spouse, babysitter or relative.

The best way is to install a hidden cameras into rooms so you can monitor your child to see what is going on when you are away and can’t be with your child.

The hard core facts are that today, Most abused and neglected children never come to the attention of government authorities because it’s a case of he said/she. Child abuse statistics in our government are never accurate. Authorities ask parents to recall and report abuse that they may have experienced in childhood. Many child abuse stories you here go unreported due to lack of concrete evidence that the abuse even happened at all!

Also, there are many types of child abuse from physical neglect to hitting or beating or just verbal abuse which sometime is even worse than physical abuse. Then there is incest which is when the parent has sex with his or her child which will totally mess the child up for life.

Using hidden cameras is key rooms where your child spends his time is vital to insure that he or she is safe from child abuse. At the very least, by using a hidden camera you will be able to prove to authorities that the your child was definitely abused therefore you will be able to prosecute that person with authorities later on.

We give you a list of some of the best hidden cameras than can be used to prevent child abuse or at the very least prove that your child was abused by a nanny, babysitter, friend or parent.

1) The Air Wick Fresh Matic hidden camera is non-functioning as an air freshener but is perfect as a hidden camera. You’ll be able to see everything happening and watch your child in the comfort of any room in your house and catch child abuse before it happens.

2) A Hidden Camera disguised as a Puppy Dog that lets you see and hear everything using a hidden camera and speaker. The signal is transmitted to a hand-held portable LCD monitor that you can carry around the house while doing chores or housework.

3) Yellow Monster Hidden Camera Disguised as a Yellow Monster put this in where your young child or baby is to safeguard against potential child abusers.

4) The Down-View Smoke Detector hidden camera works by mounting it to the ceiling. Put it in locations where your child is in the most until you get home.

Many other ordinary everyday objects can have hidden cameras in them that are completely undetectable by a potential child abuser.

Each of the above hidden cameras are designed to attach to your TV or to a Digital Video Recorder in which you can record all the activity that the camera sees.

Many times monitoring for child abuse from a remote location is very desirable. Many parents today work on computers at work and need a way to monitor their children when at work to make sure they are safe from child abuse. So there is a 4 Channel Wireless Visec Surveillance System that really is a great and easy system to set up. It can monitor and record up to 4 rooms. Perfect to see pictures of child abuse or detect signs of child abuse.

The best part about a Visec Surveillance System is that the cameras are out in full view and by being visible will let the child abuser know he or she is being watched thus making it less likely your child will be abused in the first place!

On Christianity, Fundamentalism, Spanking, And What Constitutes Child Abuse

In his article, Conservative Protestantism and the Corporal Punishment of Children, in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion (JSSR), Ellison (2001) takes up the issue of Conservative Protestants and spanking. One point that he reiterates almost ad nauseam is that such conservative religious adherents are far more likely than the general public to support corporal punishment of children. A second theme repeatedly revisited is that it is not necessarily reasonable to call such behavior abusive.

I must state from the start that this is not a dispassionate topic with me. I am an education professor and also a seminary graduate, a trained chaplain, and a minister. Further, my background traces its path though the Jesus Movement, which attracted many “refugees” from the “hippie days” of the late 60′s and early 70′s. As a Jesus Freak, I was firmly fixed in the fundamentalist milieu from which the Jesus Movement grew. When I married my Jesus Freak sweetheart in the mid 70′s, we began working on a family. When children came, we followed the teachings of the fundamentalist Christian “gurus” and were quite strict with our children. I saw much of the same in our church associations-all young adults with kids, all towing the line in regards to child discipline. I have no doubt that what I saw and was rapidly accepting bordered on abuse-which was one of the reasons I repudiated fundamentalism when my sons were quite small.

My concern, simply put, is with children whose parents might be considering placing them in daycare at a fundamentalist church or school, or folks who read the books of conservative Christian “pro-family psychologists” offering advice on childrearing. I hope to show that fundamentalism naturally places children at danger and naturally tends to abusiveness.

In due course, I shall take up the issue of whether “spanking” encouraged by fundamentalist Christian leaders amounts or leads to abuse and whether, therefore, it is wise for a parent to turn to such teachers for instruction in childrearing or entrust the care of their children to fundamentalist childcare and educational institutions. First, however, it might be instructive to consider precisely why parents under the spell of fundamentalist tutors might adopt a program of corporal punishment. There are four predominant reasons indicated in the literature.

First, there is the issue of biblical inerrancy. Fundamentalists believe and teach that the Bible is completely without error on any topic upon which it speaks. It is the “court of no appeals.” Second, fundamentalist writers, teachers, and preachers are well armed with many biblical proof texts demonstrating that “sparing the rod” is not the best approach. Thirdly, fundamentalists expound an extreme authoritarian, male dominated, and hierarchical view of family life. Lastly, the fundamentalist view of humanity is such that humans are viewed as sinful and hell-bound by nature. This rebellion must be addressed. The best way to save one’s child from hell is by “beating the hell out of him or her.”

In Grevens’ Spare the Rod: The Religious Roots of Punishment and the Psychological Impact of Physical Abuse (1991) the notion of using physical abuse to “break the child’s will” is explored. It is the parental responsibility to break the will so that the child will conform to the parent’s wishes, thereby learning obedience to God. How much force must be applied? Most fundamentalist commentators state that the parent must remain fairly emotionless and turn a deft ear to the protests of the child. The child must be struck repeatedly until s/he begins crying profusely, for that is the sign of a broken will-the objective of striking the child in the first place.

Grevens demonstrates through much anecdotal evidence that the whole notion is fraught with difficulties. Although there are several guidelines concerning the need to strike the child with an object and not the hand and to have a “cooling down period” before administering the punishment and, most importantly, to express in some physical way how much the child is loved after s/he has been beaten, it tends to backfire. Citing examples of well-known Christians reflecting on their childhood, a picture emerges of children waiting during the “cooling off” period, making deals with God, and pleading with God that they would not be beaten again. As for the love part, Ruth Wilkerson Harris (sister of evangelist David Wilkerson) in her book, It was Good Enough for the Father: The Story of the Wilkerson Family (1969), recounts how the Wilkerson childern, had to face the “humbling” of embracing their father after a beating and saying, “I love you Daddy. Forgive me for disobeying.”

Capps, in Religion and Child Abuse: Perfect Together (JSSR, 1992), points out that this mixture of anger, pain, beating, and love is very confusing to children. They likely come to view the ritual as a pain filled affair necessary to gain the parent’s love. They must surely long for a love that might, someday, be unconditional, with no beatings attached. They plead for God to deliver them. God doesn’t. As much anecdotal evidence indicates, as adults, such children do not thank God that they had a parent willing to inflict physical punishment on them and many grow up with a very confused image of God. They have been taught that God is all-powerful, yet God did not rescue them when they pleaded with God for mercy.

An interesting view of all of this emerges from BIOLA University’s Rosemead School of Psychology. The study in question is reported in BIOLA’s Journal of Psychology and Theology. It is important to remember that we have not at this point answered the question of whether spanking is abusive in any substantive sense. The BIOLA article, Religiosity and the Risk of Perpetrating Child Physical Abuse: An Empirical Investigation (2005), authored by Dyslyn and Thomsen agrees that Conservative Protestants (the denominational listing in the article lists denominations usually considered evangelical/fundamentalist) are more likely to engage in corporal punishment. However, the authors do not see spanking as abusive. Their study, while finding Conservative Protestants to have the highest score on a test of likely abusive behavior, states that the differences between the Conservatives, Mainline Protestants, Catholics, and unaffiliated are not statistically significant.

One might argue that there is some practical significance in Conservatives obtaining the highest score, but that would be shaky ground. Methodologically, there are problems in that the test used is attitudinal and was given mainly to college students without children. Also, the college environment from which the sample was taken is not described, so it is hard to generalize. In addition, the study flies in the face of considerable anecdotal evidence. Most importantly, BIOLA stands for the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. One might suspect some researcher bias.

So, we come full circle. Everyone seems to agree that fundamentalists, or those leaning that direction, are more likely than most to resort to corporal punishment. Further, the lion’s share of child developmentalists see spanking as a harmful thing-associated with undesirable child, adolescent, and adult outcomes (Ellison, 2001). The question then is, When is the line crossed? Is all spanking abusive? When I was part of the fundamentalist world, what I knew about and saw were some pretty stout spankings administered to children as young as six months old. I saw lots of spankings with paddles. [Remember, you were encouraged to use a "neutral(?)" object. The hands were used to give love. The notion was that the child would not associate the object with the parent.] In answering the question about spanking, and abuse, I turn now to a fascinating study from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The study, reported on the Medpage Today website (Heavy Spanking Predicts Overt Child Abuse, 2008), revealed the following results:

1. Parents who spanked were 2.7 times more likely to engage in overt abusive behavior than non-spankers.

2. Parents that spanked with a belt or paddle or another object as opposed to their hands had triple the odds of becoming abusers (remember the “neutral” object theory?).

3. For each additional spanking per year, there was a 3% increase in the likelihood of yet stronger punishments being used in the home. (When I was in the fundamentalist church, it was not unusual for children to receive two or three spankings a day.)

4. The report stated, “This is the first study to demonstrate that parents who report spanking children with an object and who frequently spank children are much more likely to report harsh punishment acts consistent with physical abuse.

All of these conclusions seem to have implications for children placed in a fundamentalist Christian environment. Associated Content, in a May 2007 posting, The Effects of the “No Spanking Law” on Child Abuse in Sweden, discusses a law passed in Sweden in the 1970′s that made spanking a civil offence. Before the law, the family violence child death rate in 1970 was 18%. In recent years it has been 0%. By 1981, only 26% of Swedish parents supported spanking. Now it is less than 11%. In 1996, there were 57 reported cases of child abuse per 100,000 people. At the same time in the US that figure stood at 4,500/100,000.

Clearly, spanking and child abuse are connected. It also seems clear that in their propensity to support corporal punishment, fundamentalism and fundamentalist environments could likely put children at risk for abuse. It is something concerned parents would do well to bear in mind. They must ask: Is it a risk I am willing to take?

James Alexander, Ph.D. is a professor of elementary education and a minister. Chapters of his new book on fundamentalism, Stories of a Recovering Fundamentalist, may be read at www.therecoveringfundamentalist.com/ . His blog is found at http://repentantfundie.blogspot.com .

Surgical Abuse of Intersex Child

How do we know the correct gender of a child with an intersex condition? We won’t know the child’s gender until she or he is old enough to communicate to us. We recommend that the child be assigned a gender based on our best prediction, and allow her or him to determine for herself or himself once she or he is old enough to do so. Irreversible surgeries on infants should be avoided in order to give them the widest range of choices when they are older. Performing surgeries will not eliminate the possibility that our prediction turns out to be wrong. Learn more about the intersex rights movement: www.isna.org What is intersex? Technically, intersex is defined as “congenital anomaly of the reproductive and sexual system.” Intersex people are born with external genitalia, internal reproductive organs, and/or endocrine system that are different from most other people. There is no single “intersex body”; it encompasses a wide variety of conditions that do not have anything in common except that they are deemed “abnormal” by the society. What makes intersex people similar is their experiences of medicalization, not biology. Generally speaking, intersex is not an identity category. While some intersex people do reclaim “intersex” as part of their identity, most regard it as a medical condition, or just a unique physical state. Most intersex people identify and live as ordinary men and women, and are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or straight. Intersex conditions are also known as

Azja Pryor talks about Michael Jackson being FALSELY ACCUSED of child abuse and gives reasons why

Azja Pryor is the ex-gf of Chris Tucker and mother to his son. Chris is a good friend of Michael Jackson’s. She recently wrote an open letter to the boy and family that accused Michael Jackson of child molestation during his 2005 trial. Azja Pryor and Chris Tucker knew this boy and family very well and took the stand to defend Michael during the trial. She is speaking out for the boy and the family to tell the TRUTH and exonerate Michael’s name and legacy from such heinous accusations. *No copyright infringement intended. I do not own this clip. Azja Pryor’s OPEN LETTER TO A MICHAEL JACKSON ACCUSER (THE ARVIZO FAMILY): Subpoenaed by the defense in 2005, Azja Pryor writes to Jackson’s 2nd accuser: Dear Gavin, Star, Davellin, and Janet: After Michael’s tragic death last week, I have to say that all the negative feelings I’ve had towards your family following the outrageous claims made by you Gavin and your mother Janet–against Michael–came back to me tenfold. The pain, disappointment, anger, and betrayal I feel towards you simply cannot be put into words. You have shown me that your greed, lies, and personal gain override any morals your family claims to have; and you have proven yourselves to be the kind of people capable of turning your back on the very person who came to your rescue when you were most desperate. The fact that you falsely accused Michael of the most heinous of acts, and made his life a living hell in what would become his last years is unthinkable; and

Tell Me Why – Aurore & Sylvia- STOP Child Abuse NOW

COMMENT IT & PLEASE READ BELOW: This issue i feel strongly about and recently watched Aurore and An American Crime. I felt the lyrics of this song went really well with the clips i used and highlighted the horrors of child abuse and how it not only affects those who are being hurt but the others who have to watch it being done in this case Aurore and Sylvia’s Sisters and towards the end the other children who realise what they have done. Also this was strong for me as both stories are true stories! so if you are being abused or you know that a friend or sibling are tell someone or send an anonymous message to the police you can do that now! dont be afraid otherwise it might be too late. I have made three videos this being my fourth and this is by far the most important to me and i worked very hard on it and think it may be on of the best i have done in terms of fitting with the song. Please let me know what you think i really believe this video is my most powerful! So if you watch this then please comment and let me know. Stop Child Abuse

This article is one of the most awful veracity based and the most realistic researched based article, which I have ever written in my life. This article has created many hindrances in my personal matters too while working for it. Even the research has made me to lose some of my known people, because they think that it is wrong to find about the bitter realities. I work on this article for the social cause and I damn care for others who didn’t want me to write this awareness article in order to alert the young generation of our society about this abusive issue. I want to prepare youngsters for their future to deal which such incidents with dare.

I have done 2 years of extensive research on the issue of CHILD ABUSE.

This article is the reality based article, and I have already received many international proclaimed for this research.

I am glad to see lots of audience to appreciate my work but despair to see many who did not trust me when I started working for this article.

I hate child to be abused. I want criminals to be in jail as soon as possible.

Our government is taking no steps and I know few young children who had been abused by bastard abuser and for that purpose, I wrote this article to aware every one about the repute, which has already been lost by many youngsters who had been abused.

May be many people might think of me wrong as I had visited several websites to gather information about child abuse and I also chatted on Mirc channels, in order to trap the accused for finding out the realities. I have talked too many who had just insanely performed such acts and tried to trap youngsters for the fulfillment of their abusive wishes. I anonymously chatted them like an innocent child, talked them on phone, and also met few with lots of security protection of my relatives for me, in order to trap them to find out the reasons.

It’s a noble cause and I dedicate this work for some one who is every thing to me. I know that person would feel proud of me one day, when that person will know that I have written good article for humanity awareness.

What the anguish is the world is doing to deliberate towards solving the major, bitter problem of our society? I.e. dilemma of CHILD ABUSE.

Children are innocent, but it doesn’t mean that we should ignore our duty to give them Proper attention. The emotional scars are deeper than the physical scars. Who will fill the scars which are left behind and which could not be mended easily?

I would like to congratulate and would present the award to the United Nation, Child Protection agencies and especially to the social workers, for just sitting and eating donations from the donor countries and for doing nothing to stop this serious major concerned problem.

Arranging meetings, seminars etc on child abuse issue would never solve the problem until and unless governments pass any law i.e. severe punishment for the accused.

I can’t solve this major problem individually. All I can do is to motivate every one to just move forward to solve this problem globally.

I would like to give basic awareness to the local public as well as to the government officials, to learn about the basic facts about the major concerning problem of child abuse.

Remember that Child abuse is never child’s fault. It’s the fault of those dirty minds, which are like wild animals.

Child abuse consists of any act, or failure to act, that jeopardizes a child’s physical or emotional or mental health and development.

Child abuse also means to sodomize young male or female orally or sexually.

There are three major types of child abuse:

•Physical abuse

•Emotional abuse

•Sexual abuse

Physical child abuse is the wound resulting from physical aggression. Beating, shaking, kicking, pinching, biting, hair-pulling, burning with cigarettes, scalding water or hot objects, abuse by a sibling/relative etc are all in the category of physical abuse.

Emotional abuse is a prototype of actions that attacks a child’s emotional development. It includes steady criticizing; belittling, insulting, rejecting and teasing are some of the forms these oral attacks can take.

Sexual abuse, which is our main topic of concern in this article, is critically defined as:

Sexual abuse of a child is any sexual act between an adult and a child (either gender). This term is also known as sodomization or child molestation.

It includes touching; kissing, hugging or making them to allow you to touch their sex organs, forcing the child to undress, spying on a child in the bathroom or bedroom, exposing children to pornography (movies, magazines, or websites), luring a child for sexual relationships, exposing children to adult sexuality in any form like showing sex organs to a child, forced observation of sexual acts, telling “dirty” stories, child prostitution or sexual exploitation (using a child to perform sex with others), which is very common in Asian countries, intercourse, incest, rape, oral sex, sodomy or even beyond it.

Sexual child abusers can be: Stepmothers, stepfathers, siblings, or other relatives, childcare professionals, peons, government officers, teachers, or athletic coaches, foster parents, truck drivers, friends, relatives, vagabond, burger boys, rich business man, strangers etc

What are the reasons, which makes a normal person to abuse child?

My research has found some of the factors, which are given below:

Stress, lack of the nurturing qualities, difficulty controlling anger, a personal history of being abused by some one in the past, divorce, isolation from the family or community, physical or mental health problems, alcohol or drug abuse, marital conflict, financial difficulties, for fun and pleasure, taking out frustration, short temper etc.

Child abuser specially tries to trap innocent, young, cute, chubby, shy, reserved, or alone child.

They can use any medium to trap them like giving them gift; inviting them for a cup of tea; giving them rupees or free coupons; threat them; inspiring them by giving them extra attention etc.

Child abusers are very clever. They try to trap innocent on net via mail or chat or by visiting public parks or any area, which is full of crowd.

Some signs of sexual child abuse are as follows:

•Fear, depression, shyness, fever, quietness, shivering, tension, fever, stammering while talking, inappropriate interest or your child could be attention Deficit., avoidance of things related to sexuality, or rejection of own genitals or body, excessive aggression, fear of a particular person, impaired social behavior, antisocial behavior, and difficulty establishing intimate personal relationships, low self-esteem, self-injury, suicidal tendencies, eating disorders; personality disorders, nightmares, bed wetting etc.

Steps to be taken

•If you suspect child abuse, always report it for the sake of the child. Inform the victim parents and call your nearest police station or take the help of Rangers.

•Do not neglect if your child wants to share some thing to you. Always build the relation of trust with your child.

•Do not mentally torture your child. Be calm and ask them the real scenario.

•Never de-motivate them to speak up.

•Teach them from their early age to be aware of child abusers.

•Teach them not to talk to any stranger or passerby.

•Teach your child not to receive mail, gifts, or packages from someone you don’t know.

•Gently encourage the child to give you enough information to evaluate whether abuse may have occurred.

•If the child reveals the mistreatment, reinstate him/her that you believe him/her, that he/she is right to tell you, and that he/she is not bad.

Who can help victim?

Social worker; Teacher; Police; Lawyer; Family Member etc.

Conclusion:

Now it’s high time to take action. The life of victim cannot be judged. We cannot conceive the pain in their heart properly. Governments should pass severe strict laws against child abusers so that they could not perform such act ever again in their life.

The issue should be raised in all the Public and Government schools and I would request every one to circulate this researched article to your families, friends, and students etc to spread awareness among them. Your support, act of kindness and adoration towards innocent child will bring happiness and a little smile on their faces.

Warning Signs Of Child Abuse

In the USA, over 900,000 children are victims of abuse & neglect every year. Child abuse is so common, yet shocking . Whether the abuse is physical, emotional, sexual, or neglect, the scars can be deep and long-lasting, often leading to future child abuse. Learning the signs and symptoms of child abuse can help break the cycle, finding out where to get help for the children and their caregivers.

Why would someone abuse an innocent child? Child abuse happens in all social groups and all ethnicities. Sadly, the abuse is overwhelmingly caused by those who are supposed to be protecting the child- the parents.

There are many forms of abuse, but the result is the same- serious physical or emotional harm. Physical or sexual abuse may be the most striking types of abuse, since they often unfortunately leave physical evidence behind. However, emotional abuse and neglect are serious types of child abuse that are often more subtle and difficult to spot. Child neglect is the most common type of child abuse.

Risk factors for child abuse include:

History of child abuse. Unfortunately, the patterns we learn in childhood are often what we use as parents. Without treatment and insight, sadly, the cycle of child abuse often continues.

Stress and lack of support. Parenting can be a very time intensive, difficult job. Parents caring for children without support from family, friends or the community can be under a lot of stress. Teen parents often struggle with the maturity and patience needed to be a parent. Caring for a child with a disability, special needs or difficult behaviors is also a challenge. Caregivers who are under financial or relationship stress are at risk as well.

Alcohol or drug abuse. Alcohol and drug abuse lead to serious lapses in judgment. They can interfere with impulse control making emotional and physical abuse more likely. Due to impairment caused by being intoxicated, alcohol and drug abuse frequently lead to child neglect Domestic violence. Witnessing domestic violence in the home, as well as the chaos and instability that is the result, is emotional abuse to a child. Frequently domestic violence will escalate to physical violence against the child as well.

All types of child abuse and neglect leave lasting scars. Some of these scars might be physical, but emotional scarring has long lasting effects throughout life, damaging a child\’s sense of self and ability to have healthy relationships.

Physical child abuse: Warning signs and how to help
Many physically abusive parents and caregivers insist that their actions are simply forms of discipline, ways to make children learn to behave. But there\’s a big difference between giving an unmanageable child a swat on the backside and twisting the child\’s arm until it breaks. Physical abuse can include striking a child with the hand, fist, or foot or with an object, burning, shaking, pushing, or throwing a child; pinching or biting the child, pulling a child by the hair or cutting off a child\’s air. Another form of child abuse involving babies is shaken baby syndrome, in which a frustrated caregiver shakes a baby roughly to make the baby stop crying, causing brain damage that often leads to severe neurological problems and even death.

Warning signs of physical abuse
Physical signs. Sometimes physical abuse has clear warning signs, such as unexplained bruises, welts, or cuts. While all children will take a tumble now and then, look for age-inappropriate injuries, injuries that appear to have a pattern such as marks from a hand or belt, or a pattern of severe injuries.

Behavioral signs. Other times, signs of physical abuse may be more subtle. The child may be fearful, shy away from touch or appear to be afraid to go home. A child\’s clothing may be inappropriate for the weather, such as heavy, long sleeved pants and shirts on hot days.

Caregiver signs. Physically abusive caregivers may display anger management issues and excessive need for control. Their explanation of the injury might not ring true, or may be different from an older child\’s description of the injury.

Emotional child abuse
\”Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me\”. This old saying could not be farther from the truth. Emotional child abuse may seem invisible. However, because emotional child abuse involves behavior that interferes with a child\’s mental health or social development, the effects can be extremely damaging and may even leave deeper lifelong psychological scars than physical abuse.

Words. Examples of how words can hurt include constant belittling, shaming, and humiliating a child, calling names and making negative comparisons to others, or constantly telling a child he or she is \”no good\”, \”worthless,\” \”bad,\” or \”a mistake.\” How the words are spoken can be terrifying to a child as well, such as yelling, threatening, or bullying.

Actions. Basic food and shelter may be provided, but withholding love and affection can have devastating effects on a child. Examples include ignoring or rejecting a child, giving him or her the silent treatment. Another strong component of emotional abuse is exposing the child to inappropriate situations or behavior. Especially damaging is witnessing acts that cause a feeling of helplessness and horror, such as in domestic violence or watching another sibling or pet be abused.

Signs of emotional child abuse
Behavioral signs. Since emotional child abuse does not leave concrete marks, the effects may be harder to detect. Is the child excessively shy, fearful or afraid of doing something wrong?

Caregiver signs. Does a caregiver seem unusually harsh and critical of a child, belittling and shaming him or her in front of others? Has the caregiver shown anger or issues with control in other areas? A caregiver may also seem strangely unconcerned with a child\’s welfare or performance. Keep in mind that there might not be immediate caregiver signs. Tragically, many emotionally abusive caregivers can present a kind outside face to the world, making the abuse of the child all the more confusing and scary.

Sexual child abuse
Sexual abuse, defined as any sexual act between an adult and a child, has components of both physical and emotional abuse. Sexual abuse can be physical, such as inappropriate fondling, touching and actual sexual penetration. It can also be emotionally abusive, as in cases where a child is forced to undress or exposing a child to adult sexuality. Aside from the physical damage that sexual abuse can cause, the emotional component is powerful and far reaching. The layer of shame that accompanies sexual abuse makes the behavior doubly traumatizing. While news stories of sexual predators are scary, what is even more frightening is that the adult who sexually abuses a child or adolescent is usually someone the child knows and is supposed to trust: a relative, childcare provider, family friend, neighbor, teacher, coach, or clergy member. Children may worry that others won’t believe them and will be angry with them if they tell. They may believe that the abuse is their fault, and the shame is devastating and can cause lifelong effects.

Signs of sexual child abuse
Behavioral signs. Does the child display knowledge or interest in sexual acts inappropriate to his or her age, or even seductive behavior? A child might appear to avoid another person, or display unusual behavior- either being very aggressive or very passive. Older children might resort to destructive behaviors to take away the pain, such as alcohol or drug abuse, self-mutilation, or suicide attempts.

Physical signs. A child may have trouble sitting or standing, or have stained, bloody or torn underclothes. Swelling, bruises, or bleeding in the genital area is a red flag. An STD or pregnancy, especially under the age of 14, is a strong cause of concern.

Caregiver signs. The caregiver may seem to be unusually controlling and protective of the child, limiting contact with other children and adults. Again, as with other types of abuse, sometimes the caregiver does not give outward signs of concern. This does not mean the child is lying or exaggerating.

Child neglect
Child neglect is the most frequent form of child abuse. Neglect is a pattern of failing to provide for a child\’s basic needs, endangering a child\’s physical and psychological well-being. Child neglect is not always deliberate. Sometimes, a caregiver becomes physically or mentally unable to care for a child, such as in untreated depression or anxiety. Other times, alcohol or drug abuse may seriously impair judgment and the ability to keep a child safe. The end result, however, is a child who is not getting their physical and/or emotional needs met.

Warning signs of child neglect
Physical signs. A child may consistently be dressed inappropriately for the weather, or have ill-fitting, dirty clothes and shoes. They might appear to have consistently bad hygiene, like appearing very dirty, matted and unwashed hair, or noticeable body odor. Another warning sign is untreated illnesses and physical injuries.

Behavioral signs. Does the child seem to be unsupervised? School children may be frequently late or tardy. The child might show troublesome, disruptive behavior or be withdrawn and passive.

Caregiver signs. Does the caregiver have problems with drugs or alcohol? While most of us have a little clutter in the home, is the caregivers home filthy and unsanitary? Is there adequate food in the house? A caregiver might also show reckless disregard for the child\’s safety, letting older children play unsupervised or leaving a baby unattended. A caregiver might refuse or delay necessary health care for the child.

What to do if a child reports abuse
You may feel overwhelmed and confused if a child begins talking to you about abuse. It is a difficult subject and hard to accept, and you might not know what to say. The best help you can provide is calm, unconditional support and reassurance. Let your actions speak for you if you are having trouble finding the words. Remember that it is a tremendous act of courage for children to come forward about abuse. They might have been told specifically not to tell, and may even feel that the abuse is normal. They might feel they are to blame for the abuse. The child is looking to you to provide support and help- don’t let him or her down.

Avoid denial and remain calm. A common reaction to news as unpleasant and shocking as child abuse is denial. However, if you display denial to a child, or show shock or disgust at what they are saying, the child may be afraid to continue and will shut down. As hard as it may be, remain as calm and reassuring as you can.

Don’t interrogate. Let the child explain to you in his/her own words what happened, but don’t interrogate the child or ask leading questions. This may confuse and fluster the child and make it harder for them to continue their story.

Reassure the child that they did nothing wrong. It takes a lot for a child to come forward about abuse. Reassure him or her that you take what is said seriously, and that it is not the child\’s fault.

Reporting child abuse and neglect
Reporting child abuse seems so official. Many people are reluctant to get involved in other families lives. However, by reporting, you can make a tremendous difference in the life of a child and the child\’s family, especially if you help stop the abuse early. Early identification and treatment can help mitigate the long-term effects of abuse. If the abuse is stopped and the child receives competent treatment, the abused child can begin to regain a sense of self-confidence and trust. Some parents may also benefit from support, parent training and anger management.

Reporting child abuse: Myths and Facts I don’t want to interfere in some one else\’s family. The effects of child abuse are lifelong, affecting future relationships, self esteem, and sadly putting even more children at risk of abuse as the cycle continues. Help break the cycle of child abuse.

What if I break up someone\’s home? The priority in child protective services is keeping children in the home. A child abuse report does not mean a child is automatically removed from the home – unless the child is clearly in danger. Support such as parenting classes, anger management or other resources may be offered first to parents if safe for the child.

They will know it was me who called. Reporting is anonymous. In most states, you do not have to give your name when you report child abuse. The child abuser cannot find out who made the report of child abuse.

It won’t make a difference what I have to say. If you have a gut feeling that something is wrong, it is better to be safe than sorry. Even if you don’t see the whole picture, others may have noticed as well, and a pattern can help identify child abuse that might have otherwise slipped through the cracks.

Child abuse prevention
Reducing the incidence of child abuse is a matter of intervention and education.

Intervention
In some cases, as in cases of extreme cruelty, sexual abuse, and severe alcohol and drug abuse, children are safer away from the caregiver. Not all abusive parents intend harm to their children, however. Some parents need help to realize that they are hurting their children, and can work on their problems. Some examples include:

Domestic violence. A mother might be trying to do her best to protect her children from an abusive husband, not realizing that the children are being emotionally abused even if they are not physically abused. Helping a mother leave an abusive relationship and getting supportive counseling can help stop these children from being abused.

Alcohol and drug abuse. Alcohol and drug abusers may be so focused on their addiction that they are hurting their children without realizing it. Getting appropriate help and support for alcohol and drug abuse can help parents focus back on their children. Untreated mental illness. A depressed mother might not be able to respond to her own needs much less her children\’s. A caregiver suffering from emotional trauma may be distant and withdrawn from her children, or quick to anger without understanding why. Treatment for the caregiver means better care for the children.

In some cases, you might be able to provide support for parents/caregivers who need help yourself. What if a parent or caregiver comes to you? The key is not to be self-righteous or judgmental, which can alienate caregivers, but offer support and concrete offers of help, such as helping them connect with community resources. If you feel that your safety or the safety of the child would be threatened if you try to intervene, leave it to the professionals. You may be able to provide more support later after the initial professional intervention.

For caregivers
Do you see yourself in some of these descriptions, painful as it may be? Do you feel angry and frustrated and don’t know where to turn? Caring for children can be very difficult. Don’t go it alone. Ask for help if you need it. If you don’t have a friend or family to turn to, call the child abuse hotline, 1-800-4-A-CHILD, yourself. The hotline is also designed to get you support and find resources in the community that can help you.

Christians: Understand the child abuse that you are supporting

If you are a Christian, thank you for watching this video. In the next few minutes you will come to understand how your support of Christianity is making child abuse possible. One aspect of fundamentalist insanity is vividly illustrated in this quote, from a book by James Dobson called “Dare to Discipline”. If you are a casual Christian, you may have never heard of James Dobson. He is a powerful Fundamentalist leader with a powerful organization and millions of followers. Here is what James Dobson has to say about beating your children: “The spanking should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the child to cry genuinely.” Striking a child, and beating a child, is insanity. How do we know this? Simply by replacing the word “child” with a variety of other words, we can clearly understand the insanity of what James Dobson is saying. “The beating should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the woman to cry genuinely…” That is insane, isn’t it? “The beating should be of sufficient magnitude to cause your spouse to cry genuinely…” You would be arrested for striking your spouse, and rightly so. “The beating should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the dog to cry genuinely…” Also insane. “The beating should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the puppy to cry genuinely…” It doesn’t get any better when you beat a puppy, does it? No, it gets more insane. Yet James Dobson advocates beating your own child. Beating a person – any person – is wrong. Any normal, intelligent

Child Abuse – Concrete Angel

Alright, the court case for Kelsey Briggs’ stepfather was last month so now seems like the right time. There is a bit of info below on each child featured in this video. Although, the Beaumont children were not abused: they were kidnapped, murdered and made headlines. Also, they are from my home state. In 1988, Judith Barsi was shot and murdered by her drunken father after suffering mental and physical abuse from him for years. He then went on and shot her mother. Teen Campaign Against Vices – an Initiative of the Parent and Child

A teen wants to have a sense of belonging, a sense of self worth, a sense of pride. When this does not happen, a teenager turns to various vices like drugs, smoking, alcohol, etc. Teenagers usually start with a single cigarette or a can of beer, due to peer pressure, to prove himself or to give the impression of being “cool”. This however turns into a habit and soon the teen is addicted. We have to launch a teen campaign against vices to help them and stop them.

Teenagers usually prefer to listen to their peers than to adults. They are in that phase of life where they are gaining independence and rebelling against adults. They therefore go to their friends and people in their age group, rather than to adults for advice and companionship. Therefore, when teen campaign against vices are organized and implemented by teenagers, the impact is much better.

Many teenagers have watched loved ones die from lung cancer. They have lived through the sufferings of their loved ones. Such teenagers are very strong campaigners against tobacco companies. Teenagers can be very effective campaigners as they are filled with vigor and enthusiasm. Teenagers, as part of their teen campaign against vices, can serve on community groups which seek tougher regulations against tobacco manufacturers.

They can discuss more stringent norms with the legislators. They can conduct surveys to find out why teenagers smoke. Most teenagers want to act like adults. They feel grown up with a cigarette in their mouth. Still others do it as a sign of rebellion. The campaigners can channel this rebellion into positive action by roping such children into assisting with the campaign and rebelling against tobacco companies. teen campaign against vices should focus on the fact that kids too have the power and ability to fight against tobacco companies.

Teenagers with low self esteem and those who find it hard to cope with the harsh realities of the world take to drugs. It is an escape route for them. Teenagers campaigning against drugs can highlight the horrifying after effects – depression, panic attacks, irregular heartbeat, respiratory disorders and even death.

Teenagers could have drug related discussions, seminars and conferences with their peers and point out the ill effects. The advantages of a healthy life could be highlighted and drug addicts could be encouraged to take up a sport to keep them healthy, channel their energies, become more disciplined and increase self confidence levels. Campaigners could also use pamphlets, catchy slogans, and stickers etc to spread their message.

Another vice rampant among teenagers is teen sex. Teen campaign against vices like teen sex should emphasize the horrors caused by AIDS and HIV which are ruining the lives of many teenagers. Delaying the first intercourse, promoting sexual abstinence among teenagers, avoiding early parenthood, responsible sexual behavior, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases etc could be topics covered in the teen campaign against vices. Teenagers must be taught to control their wants and be responsible people. Campaigners could use the media to promote their teen campaign against vices.

Underage drinking causes six times more deaths than all the other illicit drugs. Teens fall prey to alcohol as it is easily available. Many studies show that adults whom teenagers know, like parents, friends’ parents, relatives etc provide them with alcohol. The campaign against alcohol should stress on the fact the underage drinking is illegal, irresponsible and unsafe. Campaigners could use lapel pins, public service announcements, print and audio visual advertisements to promote their teen campaign against vices.

Tips to Help Save Your Overweight Child from Obesity

I received an email from a woman the other day who has two overweight boys who are about to hit puberty. She is obese and wants the three of them to find a way to beat this now before the boys get much older. Having been an obese teen myself, I know the horrors and humiliation a young child feels when they do not fit into the current styles, cannot keep up with the other kids physically, and are the brunt of fat jokes. It is not a fun place to be.

My parents did not know how to help me and I did not know how to ask for help. I wish I had because maybe I would have found ways to break my bad food habits way back then instead of waiting until my late forties.

Helping someone deal with something you have never experienced yourself is hard, or even if you have experienced it, your reaction may not be the best. My father had been chubby around thirteen and was teased for it. He felt the best way to help me was to humiliate me constantly. I guess he felt, better him than someone else. Needless to say that backfired.

As I work with obese adults I hear similar stories of how their parents perpetuated or even caused their obesity. Here are a few of the reasons they give.

Mother had major eating issues she transferred to me

This is common. A mother who is obsessive about her own weight, and I am talking mothers who only have ten to thirty pounds to lose, transfer that food obsession onto their children.

Examples of this would be putting their daughters on strict diets when they are young and still just have that pouchy baby fat. Mothers who obsess over weight very often transfer that to their children, especially to their daughters. They want there girls to have perfect little bodies or rationalize dieting will keep their girls from every having to live through that extra ten pounds they feel keeps them from being perfect.

This tends to backfire and causes many eating disorders. Children rebel and in that rebellion their relationship to food becomes skewed. Don’t make your children afraid of food, instead give them healthy abundant choices and understand that when they go out with their friends, if it is a pizza party, they want to fit in and eat the pizza too.

Parent in an attempt to help the chubby child singled her out for special diets.

Many clients have told me that in an attempt to help them when they were young, their parent had them on strict diets as early as ten years old. Come the holiday when siblings got to eat lots of goodies, theirs came sugar free. No ten year old wants sugar free chocolate. Not only does it taste nasty, it singles the child out making her feel less than.

This behavior by parents is done out of love, but it usually backfires because the moment the child is of age to buy her own goodies, she will take on binging behaviors. Instead of learning to enjoy one or two chocolates, she has learned that to get to eat the good stuff she must do it in private to not get caught. That fear of getting caught will causes her to eat fast and excessively as she is afraid she will not get to do it again soon enough.

This type of behavior also causes shame. Once shame and guilt are associated with food it is hard to recover to eating properly. So many adults use food to almost punish themselves. It is a love/hate relationship. And it is destructive in nature.

Parent(s) were obese and eating was a family affair.

Some children can find their way past this, but others are set off on the wrong direction right from the get go. If you are obese, it is your responsibility as a parent to bring only healthy good food into your children’s lives. You sitting around eating junk food every night or making late night trips to the local KFC is teaching your child bad fat habits that they may never be able to break. No one likes being obese. If you love your children, you are going to have to start making health a family affair. There are no other options.

As an obese person yourself, you have issues about your weight you have to deal with. Life is tough, but being able to put your children’s health over your own food addictions could be the best thing that happened to you. Many people can’t seem to diet for themselves, but if they thought that it would be good for their children the incentive could be stronger.

What Is The Possible Sentencing For A Child Abuse Case?

Sorry about the randomness of the question; I need answers on just a plain old case of domestic abuse, inflicted on a child. NOT SEXUAL ABUSE! (Sorry, I’m sick of getting sexual abuse instead.)
Thanks!
